Loomis' role and AD not being informed about Monty until after it was done

I don't think it's his role to be involved in coaching decisions. That's a bad precedent. But you at least tell him this is happening, IMO.

Something also really bugs me about Loomis being the one to tell him rather than Dell. I overall am unsure about how I feel regarding Loomis' role with the organization.

How does everyone else feel about Loomis?

If rumors were true about Monty and Demps not really communicating with each other, then I don't have a problem with Loomis being the one to break the news to Monty.

I have no issue with Loomis, I do have issue with how our hierarchy is setup. I get that he is president of bball ops, but it seems like our GM has little more power than a yes man.

I think to me that's the biggest thing. It seems Dell has about 4 people to answer to. He shouldn't have that many.

It's not about who broke the news to Monty as much as when our franchise player was informed. You don't want to go pissing off a guy who could be signing a contract this summer.

I have a bone to pick with the local media that keeps saying that "AD was not consulted".

Demps said he "informed AD after the decision was made."

That does not mean he didn't ask AD's opinion.

I don't know how I feel. There's a lot of uncertainty. The organization needs to come and put labels on everyone. If Loomis is calling the shots, I want him to shoot down the rumors. I just want everything to be ok :(

Demps talked to AD before anything was made public from what I understand. And as I said elsewhere, this decision was not made without some reason to believe that it will not prevent AD from extending.

Quite frankly, I don't really believe that AD was not asked about Monty prior to the firing. Demps is likely lying to the media right now to protect AD. If he says they discussed the decision with AD before they fired Monty, then it is obvious that AD was cool with the firing. AD doesn't strike me as someone who wants that out there. JMO.

Exactly, people have to read words.

As far as I am aware, they never said "We never asked AD's opinion, never talked to him about it, etc".

Demps just said "We informed him of the decision after it was made".

Don't believe for a second AD didn't know it was happening.

Marc Stein from espn pretty much said as much. OKC said the same thing when they and fired Brooks and hired Donovan, "we didn't consult Durant or Westbrook"

All they're doing is is keeping the heat off their player(s). Nobody wants to be known as a guy that was in on his coach getting fired. Doesn't mean AD was happy about it, but he was aware.

Monty has said for the last 2 years that he answers to Loomis. There were rumors last year that Monty was the favorite. Perhaps Demps did win a power struggle that has changed and your fears are now unfounded.

quote:

Dell Demps need not seem the only authority on everything Pelicans to have real, functional power. By most accounts Loomis defers to Demps on basketball matters and the next head coach appears to be no different according to the New Orleans Advocate.

"Loomis said the type of coach the Pelicans will hire will be left up to Demps. Loomis said the timetable for hiring a coach also is up to Demps."

Loomis has also stated that Dell has "more than this year on his contract" via the Times-Picayune. This falls in line with recent reporting by Marc Stein immediately following the Pelicans departure from the playoffs.

"Demps actually has two years left on his contract, with a team option in 2016-17 looming after next season. ?There have been no tangible signals that his job is under any real threat."

LINK

I'd still keep an eye on Joe Dumars though. Loomis having a trusted adviser is probably a good thing. Dumars trying to manipulate his way into a job would be a bad thing. Hopefully he just likes hanging out in the Owner's suite at football games, or if he does eventually get a job with the Pels, hopefully he will come by it naturally.

All of this. Saying Davis knew about it beforehand is a lose/lose. He is assumed to endorse it or disagree with it at that point. Neither of which makes AD/franchise look good.

Loomis has made 1 HR decision in his near 15 years with the Saints. He clearly doesnt know shite about basketball, as he has been a career football guy. I really hope he doesn't have much of a say in the coaching search.

As far as AD, that doesn't bother me. If he isn't already over it, he will be when we hire a new coach.

I have no issue with AD not being told about the firing before it happened. You can't risk AD going to talk to Monty before they get the chance to have the meeting with him. It would just be very unprofessional and risky to tell anyone outside of management that they were going to fire the head coach prior to telling the coach himself.

It's bad enough he has a say in football decisions, but at least he has been in that sport for a long time.

I understand having him around to help run the Pels, but he shouldnt be involved in direct basketball decisions since he doesn't know shite about the sport. How do we expect him to pick a coach? What criteria is he going to use? kinda scary to think about

What basis do you have for saying that he knows nothing about basketball? You just sound butt hurt over Loomis for some reason.

For one thing, he actually said he didn't know much about basketball.
