Full story from the tweet

Interesting that this is posted today and followed up by an Asik DNP against the 76ers. I think we were all in agreement that is contract last offseason was terrible and now he can't even play ahead of Ajinca or Perk. This board has been mostly bitching about how we can't tank or who we should draft, so lets change the topic a bit. What are some realistic possibilities for dumping his contract?

And lets try to keep this thread civil. We all know Demps screwed up by giving Asik this deal, so lets just leave it at that. How do we fix this?

Not trying to be an a hole but what teams would even want him at this point? So many teams are moving towards the small ball play. Seems like he isn't athletic enough to fit in those type of schemes. What teams don't play really fast paced? Maybe Utah or Toronto off the top of my head. Does Cleveland need a center?

Over the offseason, sure, but he is healthy now and he can't even get on the court despite only having 9 total healthy players. There's more to this than just health.

And even if it is a primary health concern, he's been here two years and largely been a bust. I just don't see how he fits into any future plan for this team.

That's kind of the point of the thread. I'm curious to see if anyone here has any suggestions for realistically dumping Asik. I realize it probably won't be possible without giving up a 1st

I knew it was a bad idea to resign him. We need to get rid of him anyway possible

We absolutely cannot do that. Signing him was a huge mistake, but giving up another first for his sake is just awful.

I could see Utah wanting Asik. Besides Gobert they are pretty thin at Center. They are also one of the slowest teams in the league in terms of pace, and they have a pretty sound defense. Not sure what would need to be done to get him over there, but he would be perfect for that team.

There is no future. Everyone knew it was a awful contract day 1 and now we have a coach who has 0 need for him.

I for the most part agree with you. Would anyone go for packaging him with Tyreke? Not sure who or what else we could package him with to get a team to take a chance

Considering Ryno and EG could potentially be gone while Reke and Asik are both under contract next year, I could see the two being packaged. I still see Utah as the best option in that case. My only problem with that is that we would be pretty thin at the SG position. I guess we could draft one, but I'm a bit uneasy about the whole ordeal. Any chance EG stays with the Pels? There's also the question what we would receive in return for packaging the two.

His contract isn't good but people overreact to how bad it really is.

He makes $9.2 million this year which ranks 18th in the NBA among all centers.

Again, I don't like the contract and would love to trade him somewhere, but we aren't talking about a team-killing type of contract here.

This team needs to rebuild. I'm fine with being thin at a position if it means clearing cap space and keeping picks

Some theorized the Nets at the deadline might have been interested in Evans/Asik for Johnson dual dump. At this point, I don't think Evans, coming off multiple knee surgeries and entering a contract year when the cap will jump again (likely over $100M), is enough of a sweetener for anyone.

The best bet to get rid of him would be just stretching him. A bad hit to take, but if Davis doesn't get the Rose Rule bump, that helps. He's just fallen off a cliff this year. He's closing in on 30 and 2 of his last 3 years have been injury plagued. Not much of a market for a 5 like that who is guaranteed another 3/~$30M, even with a massive cap spike.

Yeah I agree. I would like to actually see us draft in the first round for once . We have to take advantage of picking one of these young guards in the draft. I would love Dunn. Dude can defend and shoot really well. He just needs to cut down on the turnovers. He is essentially a mini Jrue like many on here have said.

Honestly, packaging Reke and Asik to Utah makes a lot of sense. They need a combo guard like Reke and some backup Center depth, considering their backup right now is Jeff Withey. Wonder what we could get for those two? Not very good with this kind of stuff. Would be nice to get a pick for the two, but I'm not sure who the Jazz would be willing to give up in return.

I don't know about the dual dump part, but I do think the Nets make sense as a potential Asik dumping ground. None of the bigs on their roster really do what Asik does, and they are so screwed on picks they probably would see 2 mid 30s picks as worthwhile. What else are they going to do with that cap space? With the cap escalation nobody is giving up a mid 1st to dump someone. An increased supply in cap dollars decreases its value.

Didn't think about the Nets. Makes sense to dump him off there with all of the cap space they have. They certainly need help on the defensive side as well.

Perhaps people were questioning your mental capacity because we had already traded our 2014 draft pick nearly a year earlier for Jrue Holiday.
