Is there any chance Jaxson can develop enough to compete with Ayton type centers? JV not athletic enough for Ayton or really able to handle well executed pick and rolls. Hope he can. JV does better than fine with Adams types

Personally I don’t think so. He certainly has the potential to be a borderline all star, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen. He’s very far behind skill wise and basically sucks at defending the paint and fouls too much. He’s worth keeping around at the right price, but he hasn’t developed enough the past 3 years to consider him a top prospect.

I think the end of the season has unfortunately highlighted how far he has to go still. His offensive and defensive awareness is still pretty lacking, his shot not consistent enough to either respect, or chance possessions on, he is still abysmal at rebounding and boxing out, and while in theory he should be someone capable of switching out onto the perimeter ala AD/Ayton/Bam, his anticipation, footwork, positioning, and decision-making just doesn't seem to be there yet, and his IQ and anchoring at the 5 has not been pretty except for spurts against back ups, against mostly bad teams.

Thankfully, that probably means he will not be super expensive to keep around and continue developing.

proved that he's useful in the regular season, can outrun and outjump the weaker teams.

playoff teams, they'll make him an absolute weak link

Its just an extension of the NAW situation. We have hope for our own guys, while the rest of the league laughs at the fact that they're on the court. NAW's bolted to the bench in Utah, as would Jaxson be in most places.

I think we'll be a really good team next year, even with Jaxson. But if we want to be a home court type of team, you can't have guys on the court who are non factors.

Right now we have two guys in the rotation that teams can ignore in the half court, Naji and Jaxson. That can't happen going forward. Those guys have to be able to hit an open 3 consistently, or we have to find guys who can.

I'm not sure he has the required mental drive to develop into much more than a second or third unit wing

He's been virtually unplayable as of late. I was going through lineups a bit ago and we had a net rating of -54 when Hayes and JV were on the court together. I just don't see any reason to play him in this series. You have 96 minutes to give between the PF and C positions, let JV, Nance, and a host of wings eat up all of those minutes.

Agree, unfortunately. The things he’s missing are the things you can’t teach… anticipation, creativity, grit.

Ayton is an elite true center, I cant see Jaxson ever being that. I think he's clearly best at the 4. I just cant see his rebounding get good enough to be a starting 5.

Jaxson was a decent factor in getting us to where we are, but these past three games he pretty much doesn't have a roll (although the Spurs were respecting his shot so it gave needed spacing). The ball movement hasn't been there though either so there has been like no cutting. I think this next game the starting lineup should stay the same to see if things click like they were clicking with that unit. But I think for this team, at the moment, he should be a top option for the 2nd unit not a 4th option for the starters.

That applies even more so next year. Jaxson in theory pairs really well with Zion but the rebounding really does hurt you if you have to put him at the 5. He's not getting a contract this off season so we still have time to try and get a clearer picture of his ceiling. I mean he's still only 21, I dont have any reason to think he can't keep getting better. Either good enough to have a really defined role on the squad or a key piece in a trade next year. I personally am rooting for his game to keep improving. I'd love to see more of the outside shot and driving to the basket.

I’ve said this for a while now, but I’m convinced that if Jax ever figures it out it won’t be on our team. He just oozes “2nd draft” kind of guy.

Until he fully commits to boxing out and fighting for rebounds and tap backs, he’s a liability.

I can’t argue with a lot of the things said here I mean sometimes it looks like his goal is to only touch the ball when going for rebounds - it’s so weak.

However, he seems to have a high level natural ability to draw fouls and does have a good hook shot right now that isn’t being utilized enough by the coaching staff. He doesn’t need to be out there if they can’t put him in a position to use his strengths. His game/confidence just isn’t there yet for him to know what to do when he gets the ball at the 3 point line. I guess I see it as there’s blame to go around not just Jaxson.

Jaxson is still only 21 years old. I think we'll re-sign him to a reasonable contract and hope he develops into the switchable, plus shooting big man on his second contract. We need a guy like that and he's shown the potential to be the guy.

He has come along way this year. Kinda crazy to act like he won't improve at just 21.

ANY chance? Yes

Likely chance? No. Jaxson is only hard enough to beat up women and doesn't have the dawg in him to hang with guys like Ayton.

Jaxson thinks he's a 3.

To me, it's the fact he's shown 0 improvement defensively or rebounding since he's been drafted. His lack of commitment is concerning, but he's so goddamn talented he's worth trying to develop. He has Anthony Davis upside with the work ethic and iq of Anthony Bennett

Someone mentioned around the time he was playing well that he will demand 20m a year when his contract comes up. He’s be lucky if he gets 10

First off, it is one woman’s allegations and 2nd off we don’t even know if they are true, exaggerated, etc.

This is a conversation about basketball and we can use actual game film to debate those points. Let’s not make it about something off the court, we quite honestly don’t have the entire story about and likely never will.

He's talented as an athlete.

But as a basketball player, not so much.

It's just bad that he makes more "rookie fouls" than Herb, Trey and Jose do.
