Ish has been very effective running the offense past few games. As he's gotten to know the offense better, we've been playing more effectively. Averaging 10.1 pts, 8.4 asts, 3.8 rbds, 1.5 stls per game over the season, and averaging over 10 pts and over 10 assists in the last 4 games. I know his defense hasn't been great, but he's running the offense pretty effectively.

Given all of that, do you think he is just a roster fill-in still until we get healthy, or do you think he's earned a spot on the team, and possibly playing time after the team is healthy?

- for me, I'd like to see him hold a roster spot and get some PT with the 2nd unit. I think he's developed good chemistry with the other players and can be effective running the offense for our 2nd unit, which has had massive offensive struggles in the past

He will have a role on this team, especially with this injury-prone roster.

Probably just a fill-in until Cole comes back. Although I've never been a Norris Cole fan and kinda prefer Ish play making ability, it's on the other end of the floor where Cole has the advantage. Cole has superb defense with only about average play-making ability. I think when (if?) everyone gets healthy we we will need more of Coles def. over Ish play making.

Fill in

When Coke and reke get healthy the couple things he excels at we won't need minutes at.

If he keeps playing well I think Ish has higher odds of being a Pelican next year than Cole, but once everyone is healthy he may not see the court again, so it's hard to predict. Ish with a year in the system will certainly be better than a random fringe FA signing we can make next season.

Fill in. With a healthy Holiday/Evans, the need for a creator is lessened and I don't think they dump Cole for Ish given how bad Ish is on defense.

That said, even with his shooting limitations, he's a better primary ball handler/creator than Cole. I wouldn't mind keeping him as a 3rd creator since the Pels are never healthy. Same time, Ish is 27. They could likely find a younger/higher potential guy via the draft.

I like what he brings to the table. Let's just fuse Cole and Ish together to make one very solid NBA PG!

Seriously though, I do think Ish can be here long term especially after this season since I believe it's inevitable that Cole will be a Cav next summer.

A lot of people are overrating his play a bit. That happens to fringe players on (currently) bad teams.

He's a fill in. I see him being used as filler in a trade because of the non-guaranteed contract.

He got hot in the first half, what we saw in the 2nd half is closer to his normal production, there's a reason some teams haven't been guarding him at all.

He will be the starter for the rest of the year once Jrue amputates his leg.

Assuming(god willing) full strength I can't foresee him getting any real minutes.

Bench will likely be:

Cole
Tyreke(who knows what Alvin will do though)
QPon(or DC)
Ryno
Ajinca

I'm ish has gained a bit of trust but not over established guys like cole(who's defense is needed in the back unit)

No kidding. We are last in the NBA in defensive efficiency. When is this fricker and Qpon coming back? We need their defense badly.

Calling him an asset is a stretch. Is he someone I'm okay with as my 5th guard? Sure. Is he someone who makes the players around him noticeably better? No. Am I asking myself too many questions? Yes.

Ish has good passing skill, but functionally, he does not facilitate good, or even adequate, offensive flow.

What I mean by that is this--it is very hard to be a positive presence on offense if defenses don't respect you. Passing ability and scoring ability are often evaluated separately, but an inability to do either will affect your ability to do the other. Ish's inability to score affects his ability to assimilate into an offense with good flow.

Ish is not a good scorer, which is evident in any efficiency metric (TS%, 3P%, 2P%, FT%, etc.) or any volume metric (USG, PTS/36, etc.). He doesn't score a lot and is horribly inefficient from every area of the floor. Seriously, his career numbers are putrid.

I think Ish has a good feel for the game (check his AST/TO #s), but there are some very real holes in his game that will prevent him from ever being a major minute-earner for a good team.

You assumed wrong I guess. It's not like he is an all-nba defender. He's a backup that plays good defense.
