Any chances that this trade was made to work up a package for someone else?

Green's contract is expiring and Jason Smith has a qualifying offer after this year, so it could be a possibility. But I doubt it since demps wanted to add another big and guard before TC.

That's what I'm thinking....or at least hoping. This is the first head-scratcher of the Demps-regime. But, this trade is ultimately neglible to our short-term and long-term success.

Put me in the "WTF?" camp.

I can see trading for Green, as we need a backup point as well as some experience at SG.

Dumping off Brackins this early strikes me as strange. This also puts us heavy with defensive big-men rather than ones who can score from what I'm seeing. West can put up points, but Okafor is inconsistent at scoring and none of the other big men on the roster appear to be decent at it.

Well post defense has been one of our biggest problems. Okafors numbers will improved this year, don't worry about that. We needed more size down low and we got it. It wasn't there in Brackins. I'm happy with the move as I wasn't expecting muchnout of brackins anyway.

I doubt it, this lessens our tradeable assets IMO. I think Demps sees this as a win win move like the Juju for Belinelli trade. It's about fit, although I'm a little curious that he's selling this deal as Green being a great combo guard that can backup Paul. Monty's the one that has to make it work on the court, so as long as Demps is running these deals by him first I guess we'll just give them the benefit of the doubt until they prove they don't know what they're doing.

At first glance this trade sucks, but what's the one thing we needed more than anything? Height. And we got it with this trade. I'll admit, I was excited to see what Brackins could bring to us, but the guy had a miserable Summer League. Good luck to him in Philly. I like what Songaila brought us, but that contract had to go. Jason Smith is what? 7'1? That's valuable to any team. And Willie Green is expiring so that's always good. Maybe he'll be sent away at the deadline with Peja for something attractive. If not, his contract is good to hang onto.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Hornets could remain aggressive. He tweeted Thursday morning that Hornets GM Dell Demps has discussed Peja Stojakovic with several teams. Stojakovic is on an expiring contract of $15.3 million this season.

Now I'm having 2nd thoughts and think this could well be a setup move. It did seem to clear roster spots. Digging a little deeper into Smith it looks like most of his minutes were at Center, meaning he may not have been brought in to be the backup PF.

If he makes the team, it might. And if he plays like he did this summer, that would be great. But I guess the odd man out is going to be Shakur, now that Green (plays point too) is here, and if we bring back Pargo.

I think Smith's primary position is PF but can play both because of his height. Last year songolia played both positions for us. Smith will be used at whatever position he is needed for. Since he is 7 foot he has an advantage to play a little center.

I'm wondering this as well.. He didn't look great in the summer league and wasn't going to play much this year.

Roster Turnover Update:

We're down to just 5 guys left from last season's opening day roster, and Peja may be on the move.

CP3
West
Thornton
Okafor
Peja

Are we trying to corner the market for 7' white boys?

I am VERY worried about Green on the team....offensively he is a joke.

I didn't mind ditching Brackins as I wasn't in love with the pick in the first place....I'm sure Dell looks at these players MUCH harder than any of us do so I'm still optimistic about the season.
