The unofficial label could be “Clipper Envy,” and given that it’s a term that has had little use or relevance before now, the lack of familiarity with it is understandable. But there’s no shame if Hornets fans have it to varying degrees during the playoffs. Today they are relegated to excitedly anticipating the future and potential, as they should. New Orleans isn’t a postseason participant, so hope substitutes for accomplishment and result.

quote:

This offseason, there’ll be wads of salary cap cash, and two picks in this year’s NBA draft lottery. Present is a critical foundational block, guard Eric Gordon, who perhaps is ready to sign a long-term deal (though, with his inability to stay healthy, the Hornets have to be careful there).

The franchise has a young, bright, well-respected coach (Monty Williams) who’s considered an up-and-comer in league circles. And it has promising players whose inexperience was crippling this season, but whose vast playing time should accelerate their growth for next season.

Still, there’s no shame in having a twinge of jealousy over the Clippers, as Chris Paul shows he’s just as lethal for them as he was for the Hornets. He’s doing all the things fans grew to love and teammates grew to expect in New Orleans.

quote:

And the hard-core minority might continue suggesting that his name never be mentioned again in these parts, given his audacity to leave a rebuilding situation rather than show his loyalty by sticking it out, playing two or three years while the franchise restocked, and hoping it could become championship-caliber while he still possessed the ability to split a double-team and throw a lob.

First round. We've been there before.

The Clippers hardly seem capable of winning a potential second-round playoff series against the Spurs, let alone of winning the Western Conference and playing in the NBA Finals. They’re a flawed team with holes — lack of quality depth, no inside game other than lob dunks, unreliable foul shooting other than Paul — that have to be patched.

But they’re closer to the top than Paul would’ve been had he stayed, and they’re closer because of him. And that can’t be questioned, not even in New Orleans.

This guy is a moron.

There's no envy. There's just a segment of the hornets fan base that no longer roots for CP3 (myself included). It's just hard to support a guy and hope he does well when he forces his way out of town before his contract expires.

You know there was a pretty good article a few weeks ago that argued Paul has basically the same situation in LA that he had in NO. Crazy owner, capped out team, all-star pf, limited wings, etc.

Rohan did it, but not for his site. If I find it I'll post a link.

i don't see how you can say he's a moron. everything that you just quoted was 100% spot on.

and as far as "Clipper envy" goes, I don't have that. I just hate the fact that CP's basically leading that team to a series win

Clippers fans think we're jealous of them too. I hate that this is the perception cause I'm really not jealous of a 4th seed playoff team full of floppers and whiny bitches. I for one didn't start to dislike the clippers until the whole jason smith thing went down. That and the games against them following that incident showed me how bitchy they really are.

Except for this part, which is the point of the entire statement:

quote:

Why can't it be questioned? We were in the playoffs last year... He is basically stating unequivocally that we would not have improved at all in the offseason, which I consider false. We went into rebuilding mode BECAUSE he left. If he left LA right now, it would have the exact same result. Like Corndeaux said, his situation this year is very similar to last year. His all-star PF just didn't tear an ACL this year.

Ok here is my problem with that line of thinking. Would you have rathered him stay quiet about leaving once his contract expires? Then we don't get to work out a trade that gets us as much value in return which means we don't get Gordon. In the NBA teams try their hardest to avoid superstars leaving via FA cause they get nothing in return. In a way, the hornets probably forced the issue on trading him more than Chris Paul. When they found out he wasn't staying, you know they wanted to trade him and get as much value as possible. So can someone explain to me why people are mad at him for "forcing" his way out of town?

I'd say it wouldn't have the same result because they still have Blake griffin. They would just use the cap space to get a big name free agent. But yea I get what you're saying

And where were they with Blake Griffin before Chris Paul? It's hard to compare because EG didn't miss all of last season.

Exactly. I think he did it the right way. We got a great trade package for him.

Doesn't mean I can't be pissed he wanted out

I'm not saying they wouldn't suck but I have a hard time believing they'd go into full on rebuilding mode like we did.

Because he was using his Lebrongency to tamper and undercut his value to all teams other than the Knicks and Lakers. Because he was lying through his teeth the whole time like a snake in the grass. "No, I don't want to be traded. I love New Orleans." Because he stopped caring at the end of last year and would pout at the ends of games leading to losses. It's been covered ad nauseum.

If you want to keep loving him, go for it, but don't expect me to.
