Why couldn't they do this without tanking?

they can and should. This season is going to end without them winning a championship. Can we agree on that?

in the end who the frick cares? If they make the playoffs are you happy? I'm not.

Get yourself to the position to make a real run at the title.

trade Gordon. Get an extra pick. Get cap space. Make a run at a FA.

Who's giving up a draft pick for Gordon and allowing us to free up cap space? No one. We made out run at free agents last year.

So it's either top 4 seed or top 5 pick for you? This season is a time for a young team with a core already in place to grow together.

You really think someone is going to give up a 1st round pick for Gordon?

Yes, but not a 1st round pick high enough to get one of the 'guaranteed 6 or 7 future AllStars'

I understand what youre saying, and its not an awful idea, but... I just cant see a way a roster with Jrue, Tyreke, EG, Ryno, and a healthy AD can be bad enough to steal a top 5 pick from the teams in the East(2 teams +.500), Utah, and Sacramento

So.... you develop your guys, hope to get them some playoff experience, and keep acquiring talent to surround your main core. I think Dell has proven hes capable of that, regardless of whats on the current roster.

Ryan Anderson is clearer a better player than he was last year and he's the "oldest" of the core guys.

in this league you need more than one all nba caliber player.

Holiday, Gordon, Evans, Anderson, Davis?

How many other teams go five deep with guys that talented, all 25 or younger?

Tanking with that core, all under contract, would be idiotic. This team just needs to fill in around the edges. The core is there.

Tanking doesn't get yourself in a position make a run at a title. There's not a player in this draft that would turn a lottery team into instant championship contenders.

i think they're one player away. I don't think Gordon/Evans (both) is a solution longterm.

So if they aren't a championship contender TODAY they should blow it up.

Should the Pacers have blown it up when they lost to Miami in the playoffs 2 years ago? They weren't contenders. How about after last year when they lost to them?

The Cavaliers are a cautionary tale for tanking.

that's the difference and why the Pels should tank.

Because by design, they're not a lottery team. By design and talent they're a young/fringe playoff team.

This team is closer to the equivalent of the spurs team that lost robinson and then got duncan.

the Cavs are a cautionary tale for TERRIBLE drafting.

and even they couldn't botch this draft.

The Pacers were a playoff team ALREADY. They play in a much weaker eastern conference. They matchup well with Miami. They had both a playoff roster WITH a young player about to make the leap. The second best team in their conference lost their all star PG for the season. their other best team in the conference did the same with a roster of 40 year olds. Of course they don't blow it up, because everything was aligned for them to make a run.

The pels are a young roster that has not made the playoffs, in a MUCH deeper conference. what is aligning for the Pels to make a run? Injuries? are they beating GS? Portland? Houston? the Spurs? OKC.

Their BEST chance is a 6th seed.

We're counting on Davis becoming a top-3 player in the league. Let's say that happens and Ryan Anderson is playing like an all star. Those two plus a very solid point guard, an elite slasher, and a good shooter is more than enough to make a playoff run.

Plus you can still use Gordon or Evans as trade bait if you want. We have time to see this thing out a little before we panic.

There's really no guarantee that this super class is going to all pan out either. That being said, I'd give your left nut for Jabari Parker.

And you're probably right. I don't think anybody thinks the roster as it stands TODAY is a championship roster. But as these guys continue to improve, particularly Davis, they could get there with a another smart transaction or two.

We shouldn't carpet bomb whats been/being built to start intentionally losing when the guys when have are already a really nice foundation to grow upon

Which means the only way to get into the lottery would be to blow the roster up. You want them to put Anderson, Gordon, Holiday, Evans on the bench from here on out?

Jrue is a very good NBA PG. You want us to tank for a draft pick? Even "sure fire" draft picks are an f'ing crap shoot. Up your game, Karma.

Given the make up of their roster and the shite that is the Eastern Conference, Utah tanking, and the Kings... how do you suggest the Pels lose enough games to move into the top 5?

You talk as if its a certainty that if they start losing they'll get into the top 5, and hit a homerun with that pick...
