I check this board every now and then and I remember when Harrison Barnes was a Hot Topic of people wanting to get him here. the dude doesn't even look like a number 3 options but might be getting paid 20 million dollars I don't know.

Curry getting hurt was the best thing for him he could have shown people he was a top free agent but instead he shows he's just another guy. He's losing a lot of money this playoffs

I have a hard time believing he gets 20 at this point.

Yeah it's the nba where scrubs get 10, but he's just not that good.

he could be a very nice cog for this team. i won't say "perfect" but he'd fit VERY well

he's going to cost WAY more than he's worth and in 3 years we'd look back and say "i've made a huge mistake"

If he keeps playing his way down to his actual value, sure. But I doubt he does so poorly that he won't still be overpaid. So, no we shouldn't.

he will get whatever his max is
as will every free agent on his 2nd contract for the foreseeable future

He could be an interesting fit for a lot of teams and he is going to be a max guy. He is only 23 and a double digit scorer on one of the historically greatest teams of all time. To think he couldn't be a top guy on another team is crazy. Plus he's still developing.

My problem with him and the Pelicans is he might not work. Barnes is 3/4 tweener (like Aminu and Anderson, but much better) and would he get better playing along Davis? It would be a big transition and history isn't on our side. I'd be impressed if we got him though. More talent can't hurt..

No one is saying he's awful but the body of work is underwhelming

10 mil? Sure but not what's likely going to be double that.

The Pelicans will have to overpay to get someone to come here.

They just need to throw out a max contract at Batum or Barnes and look to pick up a G in the draft. Do not bring back Cole, Anderson, or Gordon. Figure out a long term plan for Evans.

Base your team on Holiday, Davis, and Batum/Barnes.

The question is can we win big with him as our crunch time small ball 4

Are we talking a line-up something like..

Dunn/Holiday/Evans/Barnes/Davis

Could that work?

The biggest question you should be asking is whether he can play with Dwight Howard

i just don't think barnes is a guy we can overpay for. he'd fit and would be solid but i don't think he has "top starter" potential (i mean that where he's sub-All Star level but a really good starter). it's just a scary proposition due to the new landscape of the NBA salary cap (and that admittedly exists with most potential acquisitions).

i think barnes can be a 15-16 ppg guy on a team like our's and he's solid on D. he's a pretty good 3 point shooter. the gamble is that are those guys going to be getting those major contracts? is there going to be a mini-bubble due to the big cap money that will hurt us in a few years? that's teh gamble

the "money ball" move is to try to trade for assets under "old cap" contracts and roll the dice there

There's some FAs like Nicholson, Harkless, Bazemore, Marvin Williams, and Crabbe that can probably give you what Barnes can at a lot lower price.

Barnes just has that "potential" tag and a very low usage rate.

All of your post.

In all honesty, I know what I'll get from a guy like batum and it's very good. Give me that over Barnes and his potential.
