I'm not advocating against the trade in any way. If Green gives us cap flexibility this summer to bring in a piece that is in the future plans of the team, I am all for it.

Yeah it's great to tell another team if you want to trade him. This is the highest his value will ever be. Trade him now

I honestly don't see the immediate rush unless its a great deal. The cap space in the summer of 2016 is much more valuable than any player we can realistically get for Gordon this summer.

He was second in the NBA total 3 point %. That pretty good

EG missed 21 games this year, on a good year
Green has missed 16 games in the 7 seasons he's played, not counting the year he had to sit out with the heart issue 4 years ago.

Green has been about equal with EG for their career in 3's made, except for last year in EG's breakout 2.3 made per game. $15 million for 2 threes a game.

I could get behind Green and Koufos for Gordon

This point is moot now that he has already opted in AND considering it is now his last year. Unless, we can find a team that is willing, and able, to take his contract free and clear, the Pelicans are paying him that money. Also, since Green and Gordon's don't match up, Pelicans would probably to take on another contract. Unless that contract is also an expiring contract, I would say absolutely no to this deal. Max cap space next summer is so much more valuable than Jeff Green this year.

Koufos is an UFA. Would have to be a S&T.

I know. I like EG going forward, and wouldn't mind signing him after next year for reasonable deal.

Who do you think we are targeting next summer? KD or Kobe?
Outside of them, it's a bunch of centers and RFA's.

If we can create enough room to get Green and Koufas for EG and maybe somethign else small, and still get a guy like Danny Green too, i'm all for it. I'm all for it if we can get just the two Greens by trading EG.

None of us put 2 and 2 together, but BW did:
LINK

Erman coached Green for years and thinks that a Green type is what we need defensively.

Losing Gordon, it's not like we'd be hurting from deep. Jrue and QPon are good 3pt shooters. Ryno will return to elite. Green would be solid. AD will apparently be working on it this offseason. Hell, we've been linked to bringing back Smiht, who shot just under 36% from deep.

Poorly written article. Why would the Pelicans need to throw more in to make the deal work (and mentions a "sign in trade."

I don't see the point honestly. Both don't seem as long term producers. I think we get a bigger name for that position next offseason, so I'd rather have EG for one year, than Green for one year

i'm kind of talking myself into this...
right now pels have zero NBA wings...dante is a PF and QPon is too small, and they have a guard glut

this trade swaps a position of strength for a clear weakness

This is kinda funny:

People have been clarmoring for an NBA SF and the minute a somewhat reputable offer comes along y'all get tensed up?

Opinion of EG has certainly changed round these parts. A few months ago this would be done in a heartbeat.

Actually according to MM,we could just send another mil to MEM(douglas) and be golden.

Extra 6 mil in cap space.

Yeah, I was somewhat against it at first since I still think that we can see a combo of this year's EG (elite 3pt shooter) and Clippers EG (can get to the basket, good defender). I mean, not THAT good since that would make him a top 3 SG, but somewhere in the top 7 or 8. I didn't realize that Green was cheaper and expiring. If they can throw in a competent 9th/10th man to make the money work, I'd be OK with it.

I wonder why PR is whacking any mention of this?

They can't trade Barnes either, there's a waiting period before you can be bundled with other players in a trade.

My major reluctance in dealing him is that his knees were fine last year. I think he'll be in the best shape he's been in as a Hornican next season. Should help his defense and driving.

So what would our cap situation be? 11 mill?

Could we sign someone with that, re-sign Asik and then still have the MLE?
