i dont recall if this has happened under "new management", but I do recall in the past PR doing things like that when the team asked. It could be as innocent as not wanting to hurt EGs feelings with a false rumor or as juicy as the trade reported is in the works.

Actually according to MM,we could just send another mil to MEM(douglas) and be golden.

Extra 6 mil in cap space.

dont see how thats possible

green is 9.45MM
gordon is 15.5MM
"another mil" isnt getting it done
it would take 3.3MM back from memphis to make it legal (thus, matt barnes)

Well sans asik it'd be roughly 50 mil

His cap hold is 12ish mil

Gordon+Douglas for Jeff knocks off 6 mil

We'd have like 6 mil in cap space to sign someone.

ETA: maybe I'm wrong sorry:

@ItsNevaTooSoon Not really. We would still probably be over the cap. And the trade isn't gonna happen IMO. So we can relax

I figured that the BSS guys were in charge of PR, but McNamara is talking about the offer on the twitters, so I guess that's not the case.

You pretty much either have cap space or exceptions. not resigning Asik gives you about $5.5 so if Gordon to Green nets you $6 more you're at $11.5 in cap space but have no MLE or Bird Rights to Asik. So $11.5 to replace Gordon and Asik, plus the $2.7 Room Exception.

The extra $500k over the MLE may actually make a big difference. Considering raises that we could give the player, that probably amounts to about an extra $2-3m over 4 years vs. an MLE.

I don't even know who this Cam Rose guy is. All I could find was his Twitter where he works for an AM station. Nothing else.

We can't keep Asik's cap hold + Bird Rights and have slightly over the MLE?

I'm out IRL right now so can't check, but Asik has a $12.5 cap hold that's on the books until you renounce your bird rights or replace that figure with a new deal. Taking that $12.5 off the books nets you $5.5 in cap space, so subtracting only $6 would still have you over the cap.

Gotcha. So if we want to keep Asik, the EG for Green trade makes pretty much no difference in terms of cap space.

I guess it could help keep us from the luxury tax if we want to give Asik an overpriced one year deal, though. IIRC him at ~$10m this year + keeping Cole/Ajinca + the MLE puts us close.

That is true and possibly very important. Replace EGs volume 3 point shooting with the longer Gerald Green using the MLE and you've gained length, athleticism and scoring at 2 spots for the same net price.

I guess if we did this we would go after Wright or a big with the MLE.

Just looked. PR is limiting talk about the rumor to their 2015 NBA Offseason Trades Thread, that's all.
