again, i want to comapre to nashville
bridgestone is right smack dab downtown...ON broadway (the equivalent of bourbon st in NOLA). you walk out of the arena and immediately on to the strip of bars, restaurants, shopping etc.

SKC isnt exactly that, but close enough. in exchange for being a bit farther out, its literally next door to the football stadium, festival area, three parking garages, a 1500 room hotel with convention space, and two major in/out road arteries. there isnt a better location anywhere. that is it's greatest advantage.

take that 200MM and us half of it to improve the concourses and replace the seats & scoreboards. hire and train competant staff and pay them. fire aramark or whoever the frick does the F&B and subsidize local outlets to open inside (similar to the airport). take the other 100MM and sell the shite out of it for concerts, tractor pulls, etc. and hire permanent event security to patrol the surrounding areas, direct traffic and the like. buy 100 golf carts, hire drivers, and shuttle people (for free) to/from bars/restaurants/casino/the quarter, etc

About the only other location I think could work out great would be to replace the mahalia jackson theater with a new arena (or the municipal auditorium although that building footprint has less space to spread out)

There is a surprising amount of surface parking, Congo square would be a great pre game area for events, and you walk right out in to the quarter.

In no event would I support a billion boondoggle to redevelop that site with an arena/concert venue, but in theory it could work out great.

pels having a temporary place to play is a huge dilemma for a rebuild imo.

You build a new arena on the site of Lots 3/3a and champions garage. Need to look outside the box in reinventing Club 44 and Champions Square.

Imagine what $200M could do for the arena. Compared to probably $1B for a new arena is a less desirable spot.

It can’t fix adding additional seats to the lower bowl, suites and concourses.

The location that has been discussed is on the riverfront at the far end of the convention center, possibly tearing down that old eyesore of a power plant.

The place is like a sardine can, they could make it better by taking out some rows of seats.

They can play in the dome for a year. I saw some epic Jazz games there. No problem.

Pels need a NEW arena... No need to put a band-aid on a wound that needs surgery. Unless your SIGNIFICANTLY upgrading SKC (partial demolition and gutting the lower bowl in an effort to increase seating capacity to say at least 25,000+ and obviously creating more luxury box suites, soon as NOT renovate and waste money for the inevitable. Make it a general purpose arena for future conventions, etc and go state of the art near riverfront w/ the goal of MAYBE building a NEW football stadium as well in due time. Talking like a 20 year plan. OR significantly year down SKC and increase capacity on the east end.

Would be COOL for them to play at several sites within the state for a year. I'm talking games strictly and mostly in BR, but a number of regular season games also in Lafayette, Shreveport and maybe a game or two in Birmingham. Need to gain more exposure around the state and this would be the route to go.

Please DONT rain on the thought with logistics, travel and whatnot. Just saying in a perfect world, if they chose to rebuild or w.e., at the SKC site, they could make the scenario work...

That's why it's IMPERATIVE THIS team become a consistent playoff participant starting NOW. This might be the only window for the Pels with a legitimate shot at a title in the foreseeable future to merit a new arena. The future of this franchise is truly in Zion's hands and body.

If they are talking about the old steel plant on Tchoupitoulas by the CC then good luck. I work the port and the traffic there would make TS look tame. Now, if a flyover is added then yes but can you imagine the state/city doing that? It would take forever (see the MSY frickup) and would probably be done by some moron who created more problems somewhere else.

Why not just move it closer to Rampart?

Just add the Stadium to the Riverfront Development Project and axe the extra two affordable housing apartments that would eventually turn into problems.

It’s not that bad round there is it?!
Every time I’ve been I’ve never felt unsafe and just happily walked back to canal street after games via Girod and Poydras…

Or was I just blissfully ignorant!?

When were you there?

Back from 2013-2017 I would walk from LSU HSC to the Smoothie King Center by myself at least once per week, and never had an issue.

I can't speak to current day, as I usually just hang out Uptown if I'm in New Orleans.
