And how much is that?
Are we going into next season with Jrue/Moore/Hill/AD/Cousins and then a bunch of minimum guys pretty much, and we'll be over the cap?
How is it possible to make a trade for a $15-18M/yr player like Fournier/Middleton/Crabbe? They'd have to take back Asik i would assume, at a minimum, which would make the trade impossible then b/c no one is taking him.

Basically the stretch provision is Benson's problem if we are over the cap. So if we know we are about to be over the cap then just do it, right?
The reason you'd stretch Asik is if you wanted cap space. Like say you can dump Ajinca and QPon but need $12 million to sign Tim Hardawy Jr. you stretch Asik to get it done. But I have a feeling they're going to want to keep one of Casspi/Cunningham, both of which come with a $4.5 million cap hold. It's going to be really hard to have meaningful cap space.
If you don't need to free up cap space then there's no point in stretching Asik unless you need his roster spot. If Ajinca/QPon/Frazier + Pick gets me someone like Fournier and you stay over the cap so you have the MLE, then there's not much point in stretching Asik. I agree with Fun Bunch, you ride Asik out until you have a reason not to. If he wants out you do what MM said and make him give up money so you can stretch him for a smaller amount.

The MLE and TPE are somewhat appealing, but basically this is the last time you only have Jrue counting 17 mil against the cap and Cousins around 18. If you don't get an expensive guy now, you never will. Even when all those other guys fall off the cap, there won't be any cap room.

I hear you, but I just can't make the numbers to pull it off make sense in my head.

FYI, story came out today that JJ Reddick has already told the Clippers that he has every intention of re-signing with them and has no interest in leaving.

Tell me what is hard and I can help.
The Big 3 count for 59 mil. You add the other 2 starters and Diallo and you are around 80. You can likely dump everyone else except Asik. Thats another 3.5. Gives you (after roster holds) about 15-18 mil to do uneven trades. You could do Ajinca, QPon, and a pick or two for a wing that makes 20-25 million easy. Add more to that and you can get more. Or you can do two guys. QPon and 2018 pick for Will Barton. Ajinca and 2020 pick for MKG, for instance.
Point is, you have plenty of options. There is room because you basically only have to really count the Big 3 and 3.5 mil for Asik. The rest are moveable. You don't just have to hold onto everyone and use the MLE/TPE

Assuming they're willing to take back a contract like Ajinca, you can get back 175% of the salary you send out in the new CBA, up from 150% now. Ajinca + QPon = $15.5 million can come back in a trade. Add Frazier to the package and you can bring back $19 million.

Makes sense.
If we do an uneven trade we could still use the MLE at that point, correct, since we would never be below the cap essentially?

Hire Cal in a year and then John Wall forces a S&T for Holiday. Then in 6 years when the SKC lease is up an ownership group from Kentucky offers the Benson Trust $2 Billion for the Pelicans who have won multiple championships but are a team in the tax that is losing money

No, you only get the MLE if you are above the cap. You would get the room exception, which could probably land you DC or Casspi or someone like that. Maybe Montiejunas if he gets no love.

Wouldn't we be above the cap since we replaced Ajinca/QPon's salary with a 20 million dollar player?
Or is it because we couldn't trade the picks until after the league year starts, so therefore we would be below the cap?
The MLE doesn't matter if we get a player of Fournier's caliber I guess.
Not sure about MKG though, he kind of sucks.

My point with the stretch on Asik is we are about to be above the cap after this year. So really there is nothing negative to it regarding flexibility for signing players. That is my assumption.
Posted on 2/23/17 at 4:12 pm to Colonel Flagg
It just pains me inside that we will be dealing with this goofballs salary for seven fricking years. That's beyond this CBA I think.

No, you only get the MLE if you operate over the cap in every one of your moves during the offseason. If you make an uneven trade (Ajinca for MKG, for instance), you are using cap room to make that trade because it is not within 150 or 175%.
Point is, don't hurt your brain trying to figure it out right now. They will be aggressive. Maybe they operate over the cap, maybe under, but they will have chances to add quality players to the Big 3. And they will be aggressive

You're right, time to put away the cap numbers. All of these trade thoughts have dulled my Boogie Buzz.

Yeah, lets see how these 25 goes. Who knows, maybe Moore and Hill are the perfect types of role players to put with these three and the summer will be all about the bench. Time to just watch ball and enjoy
