Dell really has his work cut out for him this offseason.

He obviously wants to re-sign, Jrue, so let's say we do. Players under contract would be:
Jrue
E'twaun
Tim Frazier
Solomon Hill
Pondexter
AD
Boogie
Asik
Ajinca
Diallo
Cunningham has a PO.
That's essentially 3 dead contracts taking up close to 20 million, and then Jrue/AD/Boogie taking up all the rest of the space.
You've got way way too many bigs and not nearly enough Guards and SFs.
It is definitely going to be interesting.

Let's sign Marcus Thornton now
No idea how he gets it done now. Dumping one bad contract is hard enough. But 3!? Really could've helped ourselves out today if we at least unloaded Ajinca.

We may just stretch Asik which scares me even more

pondexter at 3.5MM expiring is moveable to be waived/injured. include 3MM cash and he's gone
ajinca at 2yr/10MM obviously not ideal, but his salary is right in the range to help facilitate a trade. no expectations of anything coming back here thats a real asset
asik most likely to be stretched, his cap number goes doen to 3.5MM
so...
qpon's 3.5 plus asik's 7MM savings is 10MM right there. if pels are above the cap (they will be) they can sign an 8- 10MM player, use the MLE or part of it, and be OK. or swing for the fences on a trade and then come back to that if it doesnt work

I really think the only hard one will be Asik. I expect DC to opt out and Ajinca can be dumped, same with QPon. Maybe you have to give cash or a few 2nds, but it's not hard.
The issue is Asik and how much negative value he has. He has so much negative value that he may cancel out firsts in trades. They just gotta stretch him. Almost no way around it

What would scare me is having to attach a pick to get rid of Asik. No one is trading for him unless we do.
Id rather stretch

I don't think anyone is taking Asik, even for a pick. A late first usually has a value of around 3 mil. You take on Asik and that's essentially paying 25 mil for a 3 million dollar asset
Maybe the Kings are that dumb, but I doubt any of the other 28 are

Damn, i knew it was bad but not being able to give him and a pick away is brutal.
Question... If we kept him at least untill the new league year and then stretched him how much would that save as opposed to doing it now?

If he's actually done they could get a medical retirement before FA and get him off the books. Someone else mentioned the other day giving him a job with the team, if offering him that helps him decide to retire, it's the least you can do for him.
I still think operating above the cap is where they'll be because you also get the MLE. It just gives you more bang for your buck assuming your picks are good enough for a player you want and having someone take back Ajinca/QPon or even Asik.

It's less dead money and less years of dead money. There is no point to doing it now. You still have a chance (albeit small) of finding someone to take him in June or July. And if not, you only have dead money over 7 years instead of 9. The only way I would do it now is if Asik came to me begging to be released and I said, "Okay, take 10 million off your buyout price and I will do it now."
What is the deal with Solomon Hill? It seems like he has a pretty big contract for his performance, and it still has several years left. Am I wrong for thinking that he is overpaid? If he is, what is the expectation for him?

Then he's a QPon Salary on the books for SEVEN YEARS.
I mean that's insane. I'd almost rather just wait another year and see if we can move him when he's essentially an expiring.

Dell has coveted him since the draft he wasn't able to draft him in because he had already traded away the pick.

Nope. But he is a really good defender that has been shooting the 3 a lot better and playing with Cousins should mask his rebounding and scoring deficiencies. I suspect Hill is about to appear to get a lot better, but we probably could have gotten similar performance from cheaper guys..

Basically the stretch provision is Benson's problem if we are over the cap. So if we know we are about to be over the cap then just do it, right? I guess if we were up against the tax that could be an isue to as doesn't it limit your moves again?
