OK thanks, that's what I would have figured.

Do you really think the cost of assistants would necessarily go up? I feel that it would go down if anything to be honest due to the brand value associated with working under elite talent. For example I think that many would take a discount to coach under Pop. I have no idea how to verify assitants' salaries one way or another though.

Cal is not an elite talent in the coaching field who people line up to learn from. That said, and elite assistant is going to go where the money is.

Wait, you think Demps is intentionally undermining his bosses? You really think that?

I think Demps was asked, unofficially, what he thought the salary range the Pels were looking at and he threw out the $4 to 5M range. I do believe Loomis will be making that decision.

As for him not pursuing guys who want total control, that is common sense.

My guess is that any of the big name candidates will demand control (that's the trend).

The only ones I can think of are JVG due to his comments. I've seen shaky at best things concerning thibs.

Yes LosLobos, I can't stand Demps!

Is it due to the roster/residual hatred towards EG? I know you were a very vocal critic of EG.

Loomis keeps things like that very close.

Money will not be an issue.

agreed
i think its amusing though that they take the "fan site" thing so personally, and that the TP keeps using that term as though it means something

John Reid is sticking to his story and I actually believe him

He says it was Calipari who actually contacted the Pelicans about the job. Who knows what happened in those talks, but now Calipari is trying to act like it didnt happen

MM actually put up a decent thought:

Benson gives the okay to spend 15 mil on an average center, but won't okay 8 mil for an elite coach. DONT retweet if this makes sense to you

That's a major part of it. I can't help but feel that EG's contract put the development of this team back at least 2 years...a lot of money that could have been spent elsewhere.

I don't buy the argument that Demps didn't have options. EG didn't want to be here and went out of his way to let the world know about it. Demps should have moved EG for as much as he could get. We had to start over anyway.

As much as I disliked Williams, he was smart enough to recognize this fact and was very shaky about signing EG to a max contract under the conditions present:
quote:

Yet Williams also stressed that he does not see the wisdom of forcing a player to be in New Orleans against his wishes.

''We want people that want to be here,'' Williams said. ''If you don't want to be here, we've got to make some adjustments.''

LINK

So, Demps pissed away a max contract on a guy who had "his heart in Phoenix" and pissed his head coach off all in one fell swoop. Was that due to ignorance, ego or laziness? I wish I knew.

So, the real question is: Who the hell is leaking such a sensitive story?

I can guarantee there's a bunch of headhunters within the FO today.

I actually think there was pressure from above to keep EG due to the CP3 trade. It would've looked bad to trade a big piece like he was at the time.

He's been productive in happy the past couple of years so it does sting less now and he's a huge expiring.

It smells really funny to me for some reason.

Putting out figures is not how loomis(and likely dell) operate and it all seems out of whack.
