New Orleans has also been making calls on former Houston Rockets and New York Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy, league sources said. New Orleans has an interest in former Oklahoma City Thunder coach Scott Brooks too, sources said.

League sources said the Pelicans are willing to pay around $4 million to $5 million per season for Monty Williams' successor. Williams was fired last week after five seasons at the helm.
Bye bye Cal and Thibs.

We're not going to miss out on our top choice because of money. If we don't hire a guy, it's because we didn't want him or he liked another job better.

Pay the man. The future will be set. AD will be happy. Don't haggle over a measly 3 million a year.

I don't believe that the Pels have disclosed a budget for their next head coach, nor do I believe that "league sources" would know it anyway
I mean, come on...
Every national guy I hear come on local radio brings up whether or not Benson will pay. For whatever reason, there is still Shinn residue on this franchise and national folks still think we're cheap, regardless of what's actually gone on under Benson. No doubt those "league sources" come from those same people.
Obviously Loomis and company know what Calipari's making at Kentucky. They wouldn't even bother engaging with him if they were gonna offer HALF the salary he's already earning.

for real. How much money would losing AD's future cost the organization down the road?

the pels/saints keep everything close to the chest...... you actually believe that they are going to let their salary expectations leak to "sources". Dumbest thing i've heard thorughout this entire process and there have been some really dumb things thrown out there.
If Benson wants his guy, he will pay him.

Lol if you think that's true..

maybe not but i don't know how profitable the pels have been for Mr. Benson thus far. Maybe its been profitable enough but this franchise has had its struggles filling seats.

yep, all of this. No way "league sources" no what the pels salary range is.

Like college players want to play for Cal. We maybe could steal free agents in future years that we normally wouldn't get bc small market. I would do it. Regardless it probably makes AD happy into next contract. Just do it. Give it a shot. Worst comes to worst it doesn't work out. I know that sounds stupid but there aren't really home run hires that we can logically get

I think since day 1 Benson has shown he will spend the money to win. He didn't buy the franchise to cheap out and see it underachieve. He wants to see a winner before he goes.

Actually, I think it has more to do w/ the way Benson had to run the team once the Salary Cap Era started. The Saints had so many bad contracts, that the team would have to let some of their marquee players walk bc they simply could not afford them (& they didn't have Loomis w/ his Salary Cap magic). As a result, Benson developed a bad reputation of being cheap.
Considering the Saints are always butted up against the cap, you would think that would have gone away by now.

if they want Coach Cal and Cal wants to be here, they will find a way to make it work out..if he does come, I don't see us getting rid of Tyreke.

He threw money at Payton, deservedly so. Benson will spend if he believes it will make this team a contender.

Hopefully Scott Brooks is being called to be offered an assistant coaching job. Don't want any of that.

Reid says its a source close to Cal
Wouldn't surprise me if they've been talking to Cal for a while and his people leaked this to put public pressure on Loomis and Demps to step it up.
