Crowder or porter are the two I'd start hunting down. Honestly thinking we should have tried to sign Harrison Barnes.

Crowder is not a superstar even of the lesser variety. Porter is not going anywhere. The time to trade for him was before last season.

Definitely should have went after Barnes he would have been perfect with ad. And I've always loved JAE since his mavericks days and he would be a good fourth player what they thought Solomon hill would be. Isn't it crazy demos always signs dudes like Solomon hill instead of going for someone close to the sure thing. shite is ridiculous

Yeah I was surprised he did not go after Barnes given our dire need for a SF and Gentry's connections. He certainly would have fit. Hill made no sense whatsoever, especially at the ridiculous price that Demps paid. Sad that it came out that Barnes may have been interested in the Pels and had just turned 24.

Holiday will be the lesser superstar. The team will not have the flexibility to sign an even average free agent in the next two seasons after Holiday near max deal.
The Pels need a triple double in the 2017 draft. The team won't be a buyer in free agency.

If we went after Barnes, shipped asik off with a pick for Okafor, we would look really interesting.

Pg: holiday/evans/frazier
Sg: hield/galloway/evans
Sf: Barnes/Cunningham
Pf: davis/Jones
C: okafor/dmo

Part of the reason that Barnes has played so well this year seems to be that he is playing a lot more 4 than he did with GS.

We were supposed to go after Barnes, but we didn't want to wait for the Kd drama to unfold and lose out on other free agents. I personally did not want to go after Barnes as I questioned giving him that much money and what he would look like being a primary option.

I know it is hindsight, but what would we have missed out on, Hill? Moore? Not much of a risk.

Incorrect. The only two big money SFs they had on their board were Batum and Parsons. Neither of them even wanted to take a meeting with us and we will probably be even less appealing this offseason than we were last offseason

I didn't want to go after and give Barnes that much money either. I think I was wrong.

So, whose of their "board" now for trade? Is a potential Okafor deal dead and if so, who are they hot after now?

I get pieces until afterward and then I get full details. All I have been told is that many possibilities are out there but what they would love to do is get two quality pieces- likely using the 2017 and 2018 picks- and then they feel confident that Jrue will re-sign when they can say "You got AD plus these two quality guys plus Buddy, etc" moving forward

Try to go to him with a 35 win team and some 19 year old and they aren't confident they can re-sign him, even with a max. These next two trades will be about locking Holiday in as much as they will be about the guys they get. Maybe more.

I don't know Zach Lowe. But I know it was those two and once they declined meetings, they moved on Hill.

Zach published this a short while back:

quote:

The New Orleans Pelicans internally discussed using all of their 2016 cap space on Harrison Barnes before deciding to split it up among E'Twaun Moore, Solomon Hill and others. Barnes confirmed this week he would have considered the Pelicans had they pursued him...The Pelicans thought they needed to move on the available market and not wait on Kevin Durant to make his decision, which was tying up Barnes from moving forward.

I don't know his reputation well, but he seems to be respected.

He also got this info a few weeks ago when he was here doing a story on the team. I have no doubt they told him that, just like every team tells him they almost took Draymond Green after the fact to make themselves look smart, but they had those two big targets and moved right to Hill afterward

Might they have discussed it? Sure, teams discuss everything. But they decided to say no awful quick because they moved on the immortal Solomon Hill with the quickness! Not like KD took eight days to decide

So, is it safe to say that based on those parameters, the Pels have moved on from Okafor? Not sure how he gets Jrue too excited.
