nd in what world is NOFX NOT a pop punk band?

Not sure...they were always kinda the model right? The fact those guys are still going is sort of amazing. I've said it here before, green days first 2 releases on lookout (1039 and kerplunk) are some of the best pop punk records ever--to me. Throw in crimpshrine, fifteen, screeching weasel and I'm smiling.

I liked Green Day before American Idiot. Do bands like Operation Ivy count? That's around the time period of music I generally stopped liking punk.

Any list that includes both Social Distortion and Avril Lavigne is not a list, it's a random collection.

Its a pretty broad genre that is includes bands I love and ones I absolutely abhor...

Screeching Weasel's "My Brain Hurts" is an all time classic across any genre IMO

Those early GD records were fun, as well...

Depends what you mean by pop punk.

If we're talking Screeching Weasel, The Buzzcocks, Descendents, even the Ramones.... sure.

Well the band's I'm talking about are The Story So Far, The Wonder Years, Real Friends, Modern Baseball, State Champs so not exactly, lol. I didn't realize how broad people considered pop punk. I guess I should've asked the board's opinion on modern pop punk instead.

I like The Story So Far, but haven't listened to the others you listed, but I believe they will all share a similar aesthetic.

How would you classify bands like Chumped, Quarterbacks, Diarrhea Planet, and The So-So Glos?

I'm a fan but in moderation. I normally cycle through pop punk, hardcore, metal, metalcore. Blink 182 was a game changer for me as a kid.

LOVE pop/punk. Yellowcard, Menzingers, Sum 41, Rise Against, Blink 182, Unwritten Law, Everclear, Bowling For Soup, ect. Just a pure fun genre.

I also enjoy Post Punk Hardcore like Anberlin, Senses Fail, ect. Some of my favorite Pop/Punk tracks include:
"Won't Back Down" - Rancid
"Walking Disaster" - Sum 41
"Seeing Red" - Unwritten Law
"I Was Born" - Menzingers
"Come Back to Texas" - Bowling For Soup
"Awakening" - Yellowcard
"Best of Me" - The Starting Line
"Audience of One" - Rise Against
"Santa Monica" - Everclear
"Stars" - Switchfoot
"The Black Parade" - My Chemical Romance

As for Post punk harcore:
"Hearts Burst Into Fire" - Bullet For My Valentine
"Won't Be Saved" - Senses Fail
"Solid Blue" - Luke Starkiller (They're coming back this August)

Damn. It took 29 posts before someone mentioned The Starting Line. They pretty much perfected the "pop-punk" sound. Stay Where I Can See You, Nights and Weekends, etc....

No kidding right? I'm not sure I have any idea anymore what pop punk even means now after listening to some of these bands. The term has certainly been expanded in the last 25 years.

They took what better bands did, commercialized it and sold it to kids before their taste in music evolved.

Listening to Mest always takes me back to high school. I have a few songs on my current playlist.

I'm not sure if it's considered pop punk but Tell All Your Friends by Taking Back Sunday is one of my most favorite albums of all time.

Outstanding album. I went back and re-listened to it about 6 months ago and it holds up.
