I was too young to really know wha the 80's glam era sucked. I just knew that when Guns N Roses dropped that one, it was different and amazing.
4 years later, was in High School when I heard Nevermind for the first time.
then got really lost in the grunge era for a few years (may not have ever came out of it)

Pretty Hate Machine.
I'd never heard anything like it. I was only listening to what Top 40 stations/MTv were playing in '89 - mostly hair bands and R&B/rap.
NIN is still my favorite to this day.
