Gotta go with the originator who improvised that joint on the spot with the greatest musicians on Earth at the time. One of the heaviest songs of the sixties.

Hendrix. No one does Jimi like Jimi.

SRV's version is superior in every way from guitar tone, production value, musicianship, aggressiveness. It's tough to give him the nod over Jimi since Jimi's version is a lot more raw and SRV's version is perfect. I'd go JH on this one. Now, Little Wing is SRV all day everyday and it's not even close. There comes a point where SRV is just such a vastly superior player that you cant do anything but give him the nod.

Hendrix was blazin the electric blues when the beatles were singing about holding some broad's hand. There was nothing close to what Jimi was doing in the late 60's. He singlehandedly redefined hard rock and blues and did it in just a few short years before he died.
SRV on the other hand, he played some Jimi covers quite well.

Sums up my thoughts as well.
But I'll say that the El Mocambo version that SRV did was just ridiculous.

Exactly. Hendrix all day long.

I agree with this assessment, Hendrix took what the Beatles and Stones started to its logical conclusion and made it more exciting, mysterious and harder, which undoubtedly increased its appeal and set the template for heavy metal and funk rock(Curtis Mayfield, Sly Stone, Prince, etc.). He absorbed all the great qualities of Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Pete Townshend and turned that guitar into a lethal weapon unlike the world had ever seen. God confers divine abilities unto a few people and Hendrix is one of them.

Hendrix, but SRV is 1a...for a living guy Kenny Wayne Shepherd's version ain't half bad.

Hendrix. I think SRV would have agreed.

As I said in a similar thread a while back, Hendrix was revolutionary, SRV was evolutionary. Jimi was out there where the buses don't run, while SRV stood on Jimi's shoulders.
Two great ones, undoubtedly.

Not too shabby, but tone needs improvement. Also, it would no doubt be better if she was playing in front of a band instead of solo electric guitar. And naked.

Unfair to compare. Everything Hendrix did,is raw when compared to SRV. about 20 more years on the planet. And much better equipment and recording advances.
