does Wilco even have a big enough presence to make a tiny splash?

yeah, they sell out pretty much everywhere they go. its not radiohead or tool but they tour a lot more frequently.

I generally don't like it when musicians get involved in politics, but this type of statement is 100% appropriate IMHO. Unlike a speech at the grammys, this is 100% actionable.

I think they would better serve their cause by playing the gig and denouncing the law.

the stupid state law wins... wilco has been defeated by it IMO

I don't think its a big deal, or matters, either way.. Will be forgotten in a short span of time, but if it makes them feel better... Go for it.

I am not a Wilco fan but if they feel that strongly about the topic I don't have a problem with them canceling

Ever Tickets and hotels are all refundable at this point (unless you are stupid an pick the $10 cheaper no refundable option).

People have gone batshit crazy over nothing, to make some point no one will care about in a year. I'm not sure there's any sanity left anymore, just fabricated drama.

Glad they are sticking to their guns. The younger generation understands this.

So does the older, it's a principle we grew up with..

Rational people understand overreaction though, which seems to be the norm these days. Sanity is at a premium.

shite hippies played concerts to make a stink.

This is pretty lame.

I would imagine anyone going to a Wilco show is already not a fan of the law. The people making decisions aren't going to go "OH shite WILCO CANCELLED! REPEAL THIS BITCH!"

I mean it is already a big national story. I highly doubt this raises any awareness by doing this. I get why they're doing it, but I think it hurts their fans more than it accomplishes any sort of goal.

I don't even get why they're doing it. A state passes a law already passed by 19 states, some of which are in worse form. There is nothing novel about the Indiana law, and RFRA laws have not led to any measurable change in businesses dealing with gay people.

Does Wilco understand that? Does anyone? 20 states have these laws, and there is simply no measurable impact on the gay community to date.

It's much ado about nothing, just a bunch of pseudo-intellectual entertainers and advocates filling their substance less lives with fabricated outrage.

Right. The only people hurt are the Wilco fans who wanted to go to the show.

In Syracuse a black minister got beaten by cops in his own yard, the middle east is a quagmire, people are getting laid off in the oil field, yet the biggest news of the week is that there's a slight chance a gay couple may not get their cupcakes from a baker.

Wilco is increasing the already significant pressure on Mike Pence and the politicians of Indiana.

People live in information bubbles and somehow think their footprint is much larger than they believe. If Wilco wanted to do something symbolic, go for it. No one will feel the pain.

No, they cancelled in advance enough that traveling fans can catch another show nearby. It's a hit for the local fans who wanted to see them and a slight hit to the local businesses who would have profited from the show.
