lol whoever said phish is artistically limited is absolutely insane. While I'm not one to follow them from show to show, they are one of the bands who define artistic freedom in their progressive jams. Great band. Snobby fans sometimes.

Because I don't like them. I didn't like the beta version of Phish (The Grateful Dead), either.

This is really fricking tough to do, but my top ten list:
Hendrix
SRV
Duane Allman
Buddy Guy
BB King
Albert King
David Gilmour
Eric Clapton
Jimmy Page
Freddie King
And I love Mayer, but no way would he belong in a top 10 all time list, not in mine at least. I believe you have to be around a while to join such lists. If you want to go top 10 current guitarist, then I'd absolutely put him in that.

What. The. Frick.? How can anybody dog Morello's talent? Maybe try listening to some other Morello projects that aren't RATM. "Be Yourself" is one of the prettiest guitar riffs I've ever heard as simple as it is. The "Promenade" solo from SSSC is ridiculous. He's got a few on that album actually. Have you seen the guitar solo he did with Springsteen at the RnR HOF? Nightwatchman solo project? I'd put him up against almost anyone today if they had to mimic the other person's playing.

They arent even in the same class, physically, as guitar players. Creative/artistic is a different story, but as far as who can flat out play the guitar better, it's SRV and it's not even close.
