NO ORDER - (and not really an absolute top5)

Les Paul (not only did he invented the damn thing - and he was shredding 65 years ago - before it was an actual thing to do)

Clarence White (and he took his Les Paul one step further with the B-Bender and brought the ancient string-band back into rock-n-roll)

Wes Montgomery - guys blends chords most of these other guys can't even spell (and what kind of list w/o a jazz player)

John Petrucci - IMO he gets incredible separation even in hyper drive - doesn't blur out

T-Bone Walker - put the show into standard grandstanding (teeth - bind back - in the 40's)

No order....and yes, I know there are more than 5. Too hard to limit it to 5..........unless you only listen to one style of music.

Van Halen (Inovation lands him on the list)
James Hendrix (where every rock n roll guitarist started)
Les Paul
Al Di Meola
Chuck Berry (where Hendrix started)
Joe Satriani
Steve Vai
Duane Allman
John Petrucci

Can you point me to a meaningful Jack White solo? I mean something that rivals technically what someone like Larry Carlton has done in his career.

And BTW.....whoever added Glen Campbell was spot on. Member of the Wrecking Crew. Played on a TON of hits.

<---- This guys has to be up there.

Speaking of Rick Nelson, take a listen to his Live at the Troubadour, 1969. Great album with a couple of Dylan songs and his band consists of Randy Meisner and Buck Owen's pedal steel player. Underrated live album

This. The list starts with him. Lots of good youtube videos from the 50s of him. And with a busted arm too.

Glenn Campbell crushes all these cats' nuts except Chet. And Jerry Reed was no slouch, either.
