To go along with the theme of the day...Dime Bag. And I'll second Randy Rhodes.

John Lennon had already given his best.

Not that it meets the "dead" theme but he might as well have been through drug fried brains:

Okay, I made a mistake. Replace Aaliyah with Biggie Smalls and move her to honorable mention.

Townes didn't die until he was pretty old, so he doesn't really qualify for this particular argument

Townes was a genius singer song writer, not a rock star. Singer song writers typically get better with age, more life experiences and such. I would have liked to hear what he could have done had he practiced his craft another 20 years. All these people are dead so who knows what they would have done.

I can't really agree with that. Dylan, John Prine, Guy Clark, Kristofferson - were better song writers fairly young rather than old.

Pretty true on Dylan and Kris. Prine and Guy Clark wrote a bunch of good stuff in their 40s and 50s. In Spite of Ourselves album was released when Prine was damn near 60

I wasn't alive at the time, so I can't comment on the sentiment at the time, but I've always thought LA Woman was one of their best albums. Certainly the 2-3 before it were pretty bad, but it seemed maybe they were reversing the downslope. But I don't know.

But I don't think Morrison belongs on the list.
