How old is everybody posting on here?

Reason I ask, I am 43. The Smiths were in their heyday in the early 80's. By the time I was hanging out in clubs How Soon is Now was a classic. I assumed The Smiths was considered College Rock? Not in style, but in they were a band EVERYBODY found in college. I assumed that continued for years after my college days.

I asked a buddies kids about them the other day? And this is a college kid and music nerd. He had zero idea who they were? Can you be a music nerd and not know of The Smiths? Is 1983 just finally so long ago that The Smiths and Morrisey seem like The Big Bopper did to me?

Nah, everything is so saturated these days with so many genres and subs of styles. Music from the 40s is way different from the 50s, and comparing the 50s to the 60s and 70s..so many shifts.

What the 80s and 90s gave us, those styles have recycled so much that a song from 1991 can still sound as if it was made today. Nirvanas nevermind for example..It's strange a person wouldn't know of that band though.

I am 28. Took me a few listens to "get" the Smiths, for lack of a better word. Now they're easily one of my top 10 favorite bands.

Well.....among us '80s peeps, that song is considered passe.....its like their Stairway to Heaven....good but overplayed and too easily accessible....because its overplayed...... a sid vicious circle.....I'm sure it doesn't have the negativity for you youngsters though so I wont criticize you for liking it........I'm as pretentious as Morrissey.
