and I don't think it ever did

Pink Floyd. Camped out on the track for tickets to that one.

Still Van Halen, Def Leppard, Skid Row, Bon Jovi, Guns and Roses, etc (that kind of music)... all came through the PMAC thru the 80s into the very early 90s...
You sure you're not thinking of the Centroplex?

I remember seeing Elton John and Jimmy Buffet in the PMAC in early 90's.

I remember Guns-n-Roses in early 92. Bon Jovi & Def Leppard maybe late 88.

That one was '89, I was at that one and you are right, it was at the Assembly Center.
I distinctly remember getting kicked out of the Van Halen concert in '86 though and got banished across the street by the levee.

I have never seen a show inside the PMAC, Smoothie King Center, or Superdome. Been to a couple at the Lakefront Arena though.

For U2, we had to camp out for tickets. Well, we showed up about 2am stayed up all night. I remember it selling out quick. Only a few minutes after we got our tickets. I was on the side of the stage a few rows up. I remember that being a pretty big concert at the time for sure.

Wasn't there also a smaller club, on Government maybe, that got all the big name punk bands in the 80s? I've heard Black Flag, DRI, The Misfits, etc all played there. There was a metal club called Pappa Joe's that had all the big names in the 90s. Of course we all know the Varsity's prime was in the 90s too. It wasn't just the big name shows, BR used to get all kinds of good shows.

When was the last time a concert was held at the PMAC?

I saw Shinedown at the PMAC for Groovin on the Grounds a few years ago. They did a few country shows there about 10 years ago with Brooks and Dunn and maybe one with Kenny Rogers. 3 Doors Down and Garth Brooks both played there when I was a student. Garth did 3 nights in a row in 1998 and 3 Doors Down was 2000 I think.

I was at one of the Garth shows, 2nd night I think. I may have also seen Brooks & Dunn there.

REM also played the Assembly Center in fall of 1989... freshman in college...

quote:Don't underestimate the importance of this. I was around LSU when the Lakefront Arena opened, and was directly told by promoters -- the largest of them being New Orleans based Beaver -- that would change things greatly. It did.
The city had long benefitted from the fact that no arena in New Orleans was comparable to the PMAC or the River Center in size.

You should have been around in the 70s.
ELP, Yes, Stones, George Harrison, Zappa, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell, Led Zeppelin, The Who, ELO. Those are the ones I saw off the top of my head. I'm sure I'm forgetting someone important, but that was a long time ago.
One of these is not like the others--not even remotely
But yeah the 70s were great--saw Led Zeppelin, Yes, ELO, Styx, Pink Floyd there, at least that's the ones I semi-remember

LR left out Jethro Tull.
Oh, and even Olivia Newton-John.
