I love Chris Stapleton and Sturgill Simpson. I also am a big fan of James Johnson but he seems to have fell off the map. Who are some other artists that have old school country sound? Tia and

I was coming to recommend Sturgill and Chris Stapleton.
Cody Jinks' Adobe Sessions is amazing
John Moreland is more Americana or singer/songwriter and all his songs are depressing as hell, but he's very good.

Chris stapleton is not new, but is incredible, as for "new country, its all pretty nauseating imo.

His most recent stuff is terrible.
He's one of the dudes mentioning fireball whiskey in his songs with electronic hand claps.
Same tired Bro-Country themes.
just listened to his latest song...
“Be the buzz in my Dixie cup” and “Be my ‘Oh hell yeah'” in the chorus... just awful. When he started out he was decent as far as mainstream country goes, but he's no better than all of the other bro-dudes making cosmopolitan "country" music.

Not exactly new but try Wayne Hancock - Double A Daddy

If we are talking squarely about artists with mainstream success; Chris Young, Easton Corbin, and Josh Turner come to mind, although none of them have been consistent in recent years. The well is dry right now.
Also keep an eye on Mo Pitney. He has the potential to be the best voice to emerge out of Nashville in several decades, at least until Curb Records destroys him.

Hayes Carll, though he doesn't sound nearly as throwback. He explores some of the same themes as Sturgill, though.
