In Austin tonight to watch the show. Unfortunately, Brand New is first so I have to sit through that

I've never really liked Modest Mouse but I got to see Brand New back in 2003 and they were great.

Everybody has different tastes in music. I pretty much like everything, but I'm very much into alternative music. I like Modest Mouse a lot, but I think Brand New is a great band. Anybody who just shits on them clearly doesn't know all about them.

When I was in high school, they were very poppy and emo. And it was good stuff, but not great. Then as I was graduating they dropped Deja Entendu and it was awesome. Changed their sound a little but still had upbeat songs.

Then boom...they dropped the Devil and God Rage Inside Me...that's a top 3 album for me all time. They have some incredible songs. Like Limousine...if you don't know the story of Limousine, it makes no sense. But google it and you will have a greater understanding. But it has so much feeling in the album...you can feel anger and passion.

Jesse Lacey is an absolutely incredible songwriter. I don't care about guitar riffs or just crushing the drums...I love songs with good lyrics. Brand New delivers with that.

Lastly, it may seem childish, but whoever doesn't know about the Brand New/Taking Back Sunday feud needs to google that. They each have very popular songs written directly to one another and it makes those songs so great. It's just funny how they quote each other and rip on each other.

I've seen Brand New twice (once in the Civic in Nola and it was unreal), and I cannot wait to go back and see them again

I've seen them twice now. In Queens, Brand New Opened and at MSG Modest Mouse opened. Both shows were fantastic. I was never a huge Brand New fan, but they put on a great live show, especially in NY since they're from Long Island. It was weird having Modest Mouse as an opener at MSG...most people were there for Brand New and the crowd wasn't all into it. I was one of a few people around me standing up and singing along.

a bunch of cheesedick Brand New fans in this piece. I went to this shite-tastic tour at Red Rocks and didn't know it was possible to have such a lame time there. Modest Mouse only played about an hour and all the lonely Brand New fans got there so late because they don't appreciate worthwhile music and so many drove solo you had to park further away than I ever dreamt possible for that venue. I saw 20 minutes of a real band in Modest mouse that night. The thousands of lifeless emo fricks looking like they may off themselves while watching the band they love so much was really the icing on the cake that night. frick Brand New. Modest Mouse opening for those clowns is further proof My Morning Jacket is the greatest band of the last 20 years

Saw this concert in Austin last weekend. I'd never seen Brand New but they were as good as I imagined. Of course I wish they played more Deja, but whatever. They started a little late because it was hot and sun facing the stage. You'd think they would have taken the sun into consideration when planning Austin360 Amphitheater. Beer options sucked as well.

Not too familiar with Modest Mouse outside of maybe 2 songs. They were good and I want to give their albums a listen. If a Modest fan has recommendations on where to start, feel free to list some.

The Moon and Antarctica is what I would listen to first. Lonesome Crowded West is equally good, but a little more raw. Good News for People Who Love Bad News isn't quite as good as those two, but also wouldn't be a bad starting point.
