Just listened to the album for the second time (flies by while studying). Love it, but "Super 8" feels so out of place on such a chill album.

ETA: Which two out of the last three posts have agreed with.

When you're done with his albums (or before then, really), check out "Southern Rock Opera" and "Dirty South" by Drive By Truckers (the band he started out with). It's pretty much a mixture of the type of music you just listened to, and a ton of great southern rock.

Live Oak & Elephant or both phenomenal. I've been listening non-stop. It's on Spotify, FYI.

I think overall it's a very mature album. Dark, layered and very personal.

alabama pines did it to me, and then before that i might have to go back to his DBT stuff... but ive been walking around humming a couple songs on this album. his first two solo i enjoyed but they didnt seem to have that special something that makes a song stick with you... atleast for me.... he has really done a fantastic job on this one.

and super 8, while good, i was surprised when a lot of people mentioned it as a favorite out of the gate because it was the one that stuck out to me as out of place.

Super 8 is a great tune. It just doesn't belong on this album

Jason has been doing a lot of live in studio stuff for XM Outlaw Country...Played a lot of stuff off the new album. Sounded just as good in the studio as it does on the album.

Super 8 is my favorite

I liked the albums a lot. I've been a big fan of his for a decade and have bought everything he's put out and seen him whenever in town.... I'm not bashing those by any means... But I put his dbt, and now his most recent above those CDs, easy.

Agreed without a doubt. He's on a level of greatness very few people have ever reached when it comes to songwriting

This album is just stupid good. It's the only thing I've listened to since it came out last week.

Elephant was the leader out of the gate, but Songs that She Sang in the Shower may be my new track of choice

Jason Isbell Performs "Elephant" on SiriusXM Outlaw Country: LINK

Man that is a powerful song. I'm lovin the whole album including Super 8. I guess it's a little out of place, but by no means a bad song.

I kind of wish this had been added in as a hidden tract at the end or something. It's a really good song, but just doesn't fit with the rest of the songs.

my copy came in Tuesday and i've listened to it and it alone while in my truck. traveling alone is probably my favorite track. or different days. or elephant. i like em all. as others have said, super 8 is probably my least favorite track, followed by cover me up. everything else is phenomenal

great rec on Moreland guy is an incredible songwriter. All is albums are great, especially his last one, Everything the Hard Way and his new release In the Thrones might be my favorite album of the year. Been on constant repeat the last couple weeks.

I saw Isbell last night in KC. Put on a hell of a show. Was billed with American Aquarium and Turnpike Troubadours.

First time seeing american aquarium and guys blew me away. Their album Burn.Flicker.Die which they put out last year is a must hear if you havent already.

The Troubadours were good as usual but for some reason they were headlining instead of Isbell. Just a very tough act to follow. Have no idea how they got top billing.
