is this a safe space to ask ACL questions for a first timer?

so we're looking to do one day in particular to see nathaniel rateliff & the night sweats and mumford and sons. both performing at the samsung stage
i see that a pass lets me into "zilker park" (i know what that is and have been there, just don't understand it in terms of the different stages) i don't have to buy anything special to get me to the samsung stage where both are performing? one ticket gets me to anything i want, space providing?
i also have a 6 and 9 year old. it says under 10 is free, i don't mind them hearing profanity, but do you consider it a kid friendly environment.
Thanks!

Your ticket gets you into the festival. At that point you can go to any stage to see any band.
In terms of kids, I'd say it's more kid friendly than other festivals like Bonnaroo and Coachella. It's actually almost on par with jazzfest in terms of kid/family friendly. I think there's even a kids area or stage. Your kids will be fine there.

excellent. i live 40 miles from Austin, just have never really wanted to go but M&S is one of the few bands that i'd like to see live before i die.
super appreciate it.

Making children under 10 watch Mumford and Sons could be considered child abuse in some states.
Some traditions just need to be upheld. Snarky comments on the Music Board being on of them.

yeah i know i'm opening myself up by admitting that. i like them and they haven't gone that pretentious (like Coldplay or U2.)

Just remember...phish is awesome and every other band sucks. If you stick with that, you'll fit in just fine.

I think you have to either hate on Phish or Widespread Panic but not both.

The beauty is you can hate on anyone you like. Personal taste in music is always subject to ridicule by those with different tastes. As long as its doesn't get personal the give and take provides some of the best entertainment on this board.

Who is headlining ACL?
I've never been, but been to Zilker a few times.
OP being nearby should know his kid is gonna get an eyeful of hippy?
Full on hippy. Those dirty bastards live in the park.

M&S. but Nate Rateliff, Cold War Kids, Miike Snow, and catfish and the bottlemen are playing that day too so it seems like a good day to try it. if i can only see NR and M&S it will be a good day for me.
i live about 40 miles away in a conservative area. it will be culture shock for them. especially if their mom finds pot brownies.
ETA: Haim and Young the Giant. them too.

How about people just straight up smoking pot? 'Cause that's ACL.

Zilker Park used to have them
In there.?
I am talking 2003-2007?
Maybe they clean it up.
Mumford & Son don't strike me as a hippy band? HipSTER yes, hippy no.

Definitely go to the kids' stage. Some bigger artists will do some drop ins not on the schedule, and you can catch acts in an intimate setting. Also, they play to the kids, and it's a bunch of fun. The kids stage is highly underrated.
Drink water. If you think you're drinking too much water, you probably aren't. Drink more.

This is based on my attendance way back at ACL 1-3, but the festival does not take up the whole park. When I attended, you could bounce out of the fenced-in ACL area, walk across the street, and jump into Barton Creek or Springs to cool off.
YMMV.
