When the Music's Over is my favorite tune on that album.

July 4, 1971: woke up that morning, got myself a beer … after hearing the news on KNX radio in L.A.

Hell yes.
He had a good voice, but some of that songwriting and poetry he did was embarrassing. The key is he died young and relatively handsome. God knows what sort of awful shite he would have done in the 70s, 80s, 90s.
Put it this way, if Perry Farrell had died after the first Lollapalooza, he would have been remembered like Jim Morrison. Instead, he hung around and kept on making bad records and doing awful shite like singing the theme for ESPN GameDay.

Not sure how you can say that considering their last album is widely recognized as their best.

Sorry Margrave, I stopped paying attention to you. The Risperdal is working just fine. Go inhabit some other poor frick's head.

If anyone thinks Jim's vocals are overrated, then you need to take another listen to Roadhouse Blues, Riders on the Storm, Summer's Almost Gone, Wintertime Love, and the list goes on and on. Oh, and don't forget The End.
Somebody that knows this much about Jim Morrison is clearly not going to enjoy Nirvana. I can't stand when people hate on Cobain when all they know about him is he did heroin, played smells like teen spirit, and killed himself.

I prefer the first one, and that's all that matters

Yeah, the first and last are the best

icon
as an "icon"... no, he kind of defines what a rock icon is about, not necessarily the music as much as the persona..
as a musician, possibly, he really wasn't much for anything creative, other than the lyrics he added, his musicianship was minimal.
example, I could give less than a shite about Prince as a musician, but he was unquestionably the rock icon of his time.
