I understand the love for Strait, he's one of the best without a doubt, but I just don't think his music is the same quality as Jackson's. Which really isn't Strait's fault as he's not a songwriter and has to rely on what he's given. That's what separates the two imo.

I don't think it's fair to blame then for Rascl Flatts or similar stuff.
Treat Her Right, Feels So Right, Lady Down On Love, Close Enough For Perfect and My Home's In Alabama are classic hits.
But is this about singers or their hits or both? Because if it's just about singing, you can put Doug Stone and John Anderson in the fray. But I'm always inclined to folk who can hit the love songs the best. The sad slow/low tempo songs that make you want to drink and feel sorry for yourself and profess your love to the woman you've always wanted to be with.

I can understand that argument. Its really splitting hairs IMO. Both top 10 country singers IMO.

Strait's a cool guy and a legend but he doesn't have that great a range.
I got that box set hit came out with in the mid-90's. I can listen to Marina Del Ray anytime.

Top 3 doesn't change, but the others move quite a bit depending on my mood.

I just knew you were going to put a bunch of outlaw singers in there.
My tastes have just really changed over the years and I've been liking those outlaw singers' music less and less.

I do dig the outlaw songs, but appreciate the traditional music too. I've listening to a lot of Webb Pierce and Porter Wagoner lately. Ernest Tubb, Buck Owens, I like em all.
I don't consider Merle or Jones outlaw singers BTW.

If Hell Had a Jukebox, Anymore, Tell Me I Was Dreaming, Drift Off To Dream, Help Me Hold On, Between an Old Memory and Me, and Where Corn Don't Grow are solid hits.
Anymore is probably his most classic hit. I remember jamming it when I was in 5th grade. I remember where and when I heard it for the first time.

Alan is a great country artist but he is no where near George Strait. King George has 50+ #1 hits. Alan isn't even in the same stratosphere. Some Alan Jackson "quality" of songs includes; Little Bitty, Pop a Top, www.memory, and 5:00 Somewhere. Those are less that stellar to be nice about it.
