Haven't heard anything from him that suggests he can hit the slow/low tempo sad love song.

I don't think he really has to. Love songs are not his style. But he can certainly play the blues. And in my opinion he's one of the best country musicians of the last 20 years. Feel free to disagree.

In my book, he has to.

I will. I think Ronnie Dunn may be the best.

Does phish have to play death metal.
Does slayer have to play jam rock.
Does Eric Clapton have to play ska.

I think he has the ability to sing a love song but it's just not him.

Don't care about them.

He's got a long way to go to get in a class with Brooks, Dunn, and Jackson.

Agreed but the potential is absolutely there.

I certainly liked Macon and In Color.

It's not that I am against him. I just need to see some mega stuff come from him.

Can't forget about Randy Owen of Alabama

I was just about to come in and compliment this thread for a logical discussion of musicians that more or less can be argued for. But then you post this. Really? I wish I could forget about his music.

Without a doubt the best country musician in the game right now, but we're discussing a span of 20 years here. While Alan hasn't been as prolific as Strait, the quality of Alan's songs put Strait's to shame.

They've had a lot of hits that got a lot of play time so I can see how someone could get tired of hearing it. There's No Way is the only song of their's probably that I can listen to anytime. Owen may not be the best but he's definitely in a legendary class of singers. I don't care if I ever hear DixieLand Delight or Tennessee River ever again.

I guess I'm biased because I dislike Alabama and the impact they had on country music. They were one of the precursors to Rascall Flats type stuff imo.
