The thing about both Jackson and Strait that pops out to me is that neither have that many hits where they sing with great passion(can't think of many off the top of my head), not like G. Brooks, Tritt, or R. Dunn.
Here's Jackson covering Alabama:

10. Alan Jackson
Swap 1 and 2, and put Jerry Jeff in there instead of Robbins and we'd have the same list.

One of the best country songs ever. Probably one of my top 3 if not higher. That still doesn't change my opinion that, overall, Jackson has produced a higher percentage of quality music.

Come on guys. No love in here for Tracy Lawrence?

Best of the past 20 years? NO.

Just my opinion but he is certainly above Tritt, Stone, Gill, and Black

Can't get on board with that.

Everyone has different taste... Like me, I love country but I really don't care for the "outlaw" country like Merle and Hank and Co.
Alan Jackson is my all time favorite country singer, blame my mom... The woman was probably his biggest fan and was always playing him as I was growing up.
I think over the past 20 years you can give the nod to Alan, 30 years to Strait... And new age no one can touch Zac Brown. (Flame away at that one haha)

I like a lot of the singers being discussed on here. Strait and Jackson are both top artists of the past 20 years.
But seriously neither one makes the top 5 as far as pure "singers" go. I would probably agree with

Guy is a great talent, no doubt.
As long as Johnny Cash was alive he was the GOAT. So that's the answer.
FWIW George Strait>>>>>Alan Jackson

I would have liked to see how his career had been had he been solo this whole time. There were some Brooks and Dunn songs that made me turn the channel every time I heard them.
Dunn just split with Arista so we'll see what he'll put out in the future.
She Used To Be Mine Live
Dunn's voice just really brings back a lot of memories from the times when they were getting a lot of air time. Every Sunday I'd listen to Bob Kingsley's show and B&D would always appear on his countdown.

And no knock on Lawrence to the poster that mentioned him......I liked and still like some of his songs but I don't think he has that great of range. He just didn't have that many songs that moved me.

Is Alan Jackson the best country singer in the last 20 years.
