I second that. Never heard of "Throwdown" before, but if it's anything like Hellyeah or Damageplan, they probably suck.

Eww.

I'll still give it a listen though.

Every band mentioned in this thread other than Pantera sucks. Throwdown is one of the worst bands I've ever seen.

There will never be another Pantera. They were lightning in a bottle. They basically carried metal through the down decade of the 90s. I shudder to think what would have happened to the scene without Pantera.

Not a real Pantera fan, but the above are correct. They can not be replicated without overtly trying to rob them. The speed for the time. Faster than Metallica but still musical. Not fast just to be fast. And the vocals have that low growl, but he could still " sing". Without that "Cookie Monster vocal" shite that so many newer bands did after them.

They weren't my thing. I was doing the whole Seattle thing.... And still am.

Texas Hippie Coalition ( THC ) does a pretty good job of ripping off the Pantera sound. They have a good following in the Harley/biker crowd just like Hellyeah only they don't suck as much. And the cookie monster schtick is more like a fat guy/WWF growl.

Exactly why I love Pantera. Fast, but not silly. Metal, but musical. Deep growly vocals but not cookie monster.

It seems like these days, other than bands like The Sword, metal has ditched musicality for noise and indulged in speed for the sake of speed, to say nothing of the cookie monster vocals. At some point in the 2000s, metal became bizarrely and annoyingly avant garde. Now it can only be appreciated by aficionados. It's like modern art in that people have to explain to you why it is good (oh this playing here is so difficult; you don't appreciate the difficulty because you aren't a musician!) instead of its goodness just being self-evident.

Pantera was self-evidently good. Anyone with balls could listen to it and would be moved to turn it up and rock out and put some holes in the drywall.

Can't disagree- they set the scene in those years, everyone else was copying...

I acquired a Throwdown record a few years ago & yes they might as well be a Pantera tribute band. Didn't figure they were still around.
