Please help me understand the appeal. All the songs sound the same to me. The electronic sounding drumming, the singing style is always the same. Puts me to sleep.

Probably my favorite current band. But tastes differ, if you don’t like it, you don’t like it. I doubt I can convince you they are great.

A Deeper Understanding is one of my favorite albums right now. I can see how they wouldn't appeal to you if you listen to music centered around vocals and lyrics, the War On drugs and shoegaze in general is more about the overall environment created from the different instruments weaving together, including the vocals.

I could have posted the exact same thing.

Either you get it or you don't. I myself find it exceedingly beautiful music.

They have become a 1 trick pony. No evolution.

I enjoy their music but would agree that there’s a bit of staleness

I don't dislike them, but they've never really done it for me.. That one song was pretty good a few years back, but nothing Ive heard has really left me wanting to seek out more..

Different strokes and all, but this is my reaction to many of the bands fetishized on here. I would add Arcade Fire and Tame Impala as other examples. There's just seemingly no dynamism at all.

Wow. Have y’all even listened to their new album? It’s so much different than anything they’ve put out. Harmonias Dream (especially the second half of that song) is a work of art. I Don’t Wanna Wait and Victim are completely unlike anything they’ve done. Victim may be one of their best if not the best song they’ve recorded. Old Skin builds to a masterpiece. And occasional rain has Adam singing likes he’s never sung before. The more I listen to the new album the better it gets. It is fantastic!!

I used to think that I loved Shoegaze but realized that I just love My Bloody Valentine and nobody else really sounds like them.

They may not be the most varied band ever, but I think there are subtle differences from album to album. The sound on the their first (Wagonwheel Blues) is much different than the most recent one.

So much this! All of these bands sound like they could rock, but just choose not to. The Black Keys and Kings of Leon are often guilty of this as well. It’s like they’re all on ambien.

I tend to demand a lot more energy from my rock bands.

Again, I guess it all comes down to differing tastes, but it’s hard for me to imagine listening to Red Eyes, An Ocean Between, Under the Pressure, etc. and thinking they don’t rock, or they don’t have any energy or dynamism.

So...you're telling me this sounds like rock n roll music to you?

See, cause THIS is what Rock n roll is supposed to sound like to me

Yes, 100%. Rock n roll doesn’t just have one sound to me, but I definitely say Under the Pressure rocks.

The War on Drugs biggest influences are considered Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, etc. Whether you like those bands or not, I’d say there is no arguing that they are rock n roll bands.
