How do you guys feel about this?

More and more people are listening to this genre, that is usually disliked by the MB. Are you guys just old and your music will soon become obsolete, just like yourselves? or are most people wrong in preferring hip hop music over the lame things you guys listen too?

Does this mean I have to stop listening to my Glenn Miller 78s while I'm doing my needlepoint?

The Revivalists have 3 songs on the Baton Rouge list. I guess my kind of music must not be dying. Also the Hip Hop genre is too damn broad.

I freaking love rap / hip hop when I'm lifting weights. That's really about the only time.

I have Sirius/XM's "Chill" playing on my Sonos at home about 80% of the time - it's downbeat electronica (think a W hotel lobby music).

The older I get the less into rock/alternative I am. I still keep up with my favorite bands and occasionally add some new favorites like Lana Del Ray and Bon Iver but mostly it's recycling through my old favorites: U2, Oasis/Noel Gallagher, Coldplay, Moby, Arcade Fire.

I don't buy it. EDM takes the cake. Maybe spotify isn't popular worldwide.

EDM is.

Sad. That's all I've got. I'm glad I came of age before hip hop really started making inroads on the music scene.

It's crap and do not and never will listen to it. My taste is not the same as all the 12 year olds buying this junk.

That's because teen girls and gay men drive "pop music" today.

I think the reason is fairly simplistic (pun intended). People enjoy music more when a discernible pattern emerges (when it's more predictable). Rap music is often remarkably predictable in it's pattern, thus, people find it easy and enjoyable to listen to. I think certain people want a little more out of music and tend to seek out music with less obvious predictability.

Just confirms my suspicions - about a lot of things, regarding millenials.

I just gave you a very plausible, neuroscientific based answer and you result to bashing millennials.
