Has anyone here ever brought a date to an extreme metal show?

So my girlfriend is bravely accompanying me to see both Neurosis on Saturday and the Incubus/Deftones concert on Sunday.

She will be fine with the Sunday performance, as both bands have a pretty good appeal with women.

However, Neurosis isn't exactly what you put on when you're looking to make some panties drop.

She bravely went with me to see Rush and I could tell she was pretty bored throughout the performance. However, Rush is at least tame. Neurosis on the other hand...

She was already fretting last night about what to wear. Honestly, I didn't know what to tell her because most chicks I've seen at metal concerts are pretty extreme looking (e.g. copious amounts of piercings and tattoos, died hair, showing a lot of skin, donning leather or lace, etc.).

Does anyone have any advice they would like to share?

Also, she'd probably enjoy Luke Starkiller at Southport Hall on Friday night.

Tell her to wear whatever she wants! She doesn't fave to look like everyone there!
I work a lot of these metal shows, at the last one I saw a guy in a WSP shirt. Who cares!

My best friend's husband is a metal fanatic, she went with him (actually bought both of their tickets) to see Slayer a few months back. She stood on the side while he did his thing in the pit. Some dudes called her out for not being a fan, she told them about buying their tickets, they were so impressed that she actually went to the show that they bought her beers all night.

Have fun!

my wife goes with me to metal shows all the time. She just likes the energy of the bands and the crowd that feeds off it. She can hang too, both of us have been in pits together. So it depends on your girl. Sounds like she's cool enough to at least want to come and experience it. Just let her know its a release for the band and the crowd. And if it gets too intense stay near the back away from the pits. It'll be fine. And Neurosis rules so explain to her they've been together for a long time and have a big underground following, etc. I'm sad to miss their show here in ATL on Friday - have a good friends wedding to attend, but I'll be at incubus/ Deftones tonight. Have fun and if she likes it, marry her. That's what I did :)

Neurosis isn't that extreme, I don't expect any sort of mosh pit. The crowd will be much rougher for Deftones. Stay in the back for both shows.

It's been 20+ years since I saw neurosis so maybe age and kids have chilled those guys out a bit. They used to do this projected imagery behind them of rotting corpses, mutilated bodies etc....one of the more disturbing and scary bands I ever saw. Just prepare her for that...

frick yeah, love metal chicks. The girl I was closest to was from east europe, her favorite bands were burzum, bathory, cannibal corpse, gorgoroth, emperor, mayhem etc.

Hell, she flew in to new Orleans from London a few years back and after the long flight, we immediately went saw goatwhore.

I was obviously referring to the Neurosis concert and not the Incubus/Deftones show.

Seen all of them....Neurosis is not that hard core. 20 yrs aga maybe but not now.

She just wants to go for that wimpy Incubus band. And btw....they suck live.

So far I've taken my gf to Crowbar x 2, Helmet, Superjoint & Primus. She loved them all. She explains it as "music that she wouldn't listen to driving down the road, but when she's there she loves it." I think she likes the people watching the most and also she knows how much I enjoy it.

Oh and she's come to Voodoo Fest (Slayer, Melvins, etc.) and Hangout Fest (meh) with me.

Not sure if any of these qualify as "extreme metal".
