I was in High School during the peak of Grunge and College for the “post Grunge” type sound.
I loved that era (kinda got lost in it for a while )

had you honestly asked me to rank the Big 5 off the cuff without thinking, i’m not sure Pearl Jam would have been higher than 4 or 5.

but spinning them on Vinyl lately, and damn Ten and Vs. are just great albums.
Side 1 of Ten is up there with any one side of an album i can think of.

I was in High School at the Beginning of it.
Pearl Jam was my Favorite

Smashing Pumpkins were at the top also. Not Grunge but same time frame. I had heard at little off Gish but when Siamese Dream released I was floored. It felt like nothing I’d ever heard before and still feels that way.

Pearl Jam are a great band that don’t get the recognition they deserve. Their first three albums and the soundtrack songs/B sides from that era pretty much can’t be fricked with. No Code and Mirrorball (the album where they were Neil Young’s backing band) have a lot of great shite on them too.

Time has shown that AIC and Stone Temple Pilots were the greatest of the era.

They went downhill after Ten. I saw them at Tipitinas and it was a great show.

Born in the 90s and was obviously too young to listen to it when it was happening in real team, but had some of my favorite types of music/bands to me:

Alice in Chains
Soundgarden
Stone Temple Pilots
Smashing Pumpkins
Nirvana
Pearl Jam
Hole
Mother Love Bone

Almost better than Ten. Probably even at this point.

and then take into account that Temple of the Dog was basically Pearl Jam with Cornell singing for them and that is one hell of a discography

I don’t know if they were a corporate creation but they weren’t Seattle grunge. They came from CA.

And signed immediately to a major label to capitalize on Pearl Jam's popularity.

Not grunge, but Siamese Dream may be the best hard rock album since the 80s.

Just ball busting heavy electric rock n roll.

Or maybe a label signed thembecause of their sound to capitalize on the grunge movement? I never got the feel they were a corporate creation…they played the LA band scene for a while IIRC.

Initially they sounded so much like Pearl Jam they were the butt of jokes. People would call them something like Pearl Temple Pilots or Stone Temple Jam.
