What Heroin did to Lane Staley blew my mind.

He was a stocky guy when Alice in Chains 1st hit.

On Alice in Chains Unplugged he was about 120 lbs and barely there.

Still put in a great performance.

As for today, Claudio Sanchez.

John Lennon wasn't the front man.

It's Mick. Hands down.

I'd have to say Robert Plant and John Fogerty for a mention

Agreed. He looked like he could barely sit on his stool but was amazing, which blew me away even more because of his talent

People are listing a bunch of solo artists. When I think front man, I think essential leader of a band. Person who, if you removed them from said band, it would nowhere near be the same. I think LZ would have done fine with another lead singer not named Robert Plant.

Morrison and Mercury are my votes

I have to agree it was JM. He was larger than life and blew it out everytime they played. Consequently, he died as the roughest looking 27 year old in history. I guess that's what booze and opium and cocaine and every other drug known to man will do to you.

1. Jagger
2. Morrison. Sorry but the Doors weren't superstars like they are now.
3. Plant.
4. David Lee Roth. At his peak was hard to beat.
5. Ozzy. He's an icon in ways only Jagger and Morrison are.

James Brown was great but he was his own act. The only guy who had a great career apart from a band was Ozzy.

This. Morrison became an icon, he was the doors. His death turned him into almost a mythical figure. He embodied the rock n roll lifestyle.

Pulled that outta your yang but good recall, dude basically gave David Lee Roth career, completely ripped Jim Dandy's stage persona off.
