I don't have a dog in this fight; I'm not a fan of country music, but I'm of a certain age (in my 50's), and to speak diparingly of your president in a time of war on foreign soil, despite your beliefs, is unforgivable IMO.

Used to like the DCs but won't listen to them after they ventured into politics.

That said... we've been "in a time of war" since 2001. Exactly when will it be appropriate for any of us to criticize the president while on foreign soil again?

I didn't mention criticizing, I spoke of them disparaging the president, which I view differently.

I guess you mean criticizing the president's policy positions/decisions would be okay but disparaging the president's character would not?

a band/artist is free to say what they want but be prepared to face possible backlash - and they certainly did.

They would probably say they wouldn't take it back but deep down, they know they missed out on millions because they were hot at the time.

I was thinking about this video the other day. This thread is about as good a place as any to post it again:

People forget that there was more than that one remark. Some of the outlaw guys stuck up for them, and Natalie Maine's responded by saying patriotism is stupid. They didn't really get a third chance.

We weren't at war when she made the comment. She said it before we had invaded Iraq and it was being debated. Here is her quote..

quote:

Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas
