I'm sure I'll think of more in a bit now that I'm thinking about it. I'm glad you posted this, though, because I had almost forgotten about From Monument to Masses. They were great.

The same three that came to mind for me as well. I'm not good with genres so I don't really know what post rock means but I really like these three bands. Russian Circles being my favorite out of the three.

It's really just droning, delay-heavy instrumental rock. There are some post-rock bands with vocals like Mogwai and Sigur Ros, but they are not the norm.
Hell, I just looked at the wikipedia list of post-rock bands and there are some odd inclusions: Mutemath, The Appleseed Cast.
That list did point out a huge one that I didn't see yet: Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

list needs Mogwai and Godspeed you black emperor. Those two bands are essential and GOATS of the genre.

Agreed. Unfortunately they are playing the Spanish Moon the same night Anthrax is at the Varsity...

What are you Russian Circles thoughts on their albums?
Enter is my favorite and prolly their best by a mile.

Unwound. While not an instrumental band, they certainly fit in the post-rock category.
