with an iPad and a good modelling program, you don't even need an amp.

Not sure what part was confusing to you. Could you elaborate?

Just get a boss me-70 multi effects unit. I had one about 10 years ago ( it was a me-50 I borrowed) and it had almost every effect. It was only about $300 and then you can patch it into an amp or a PA system. Many local bands use these because you can program different patches for each song your band plays.

iPad apps are $20 (if you already own an iPad).

always buy used gear. Let some other bro take the hit in value, if you end up not liking what you get you're only out what it costs to ship to another buyer.

Second hand electronics being "sketchy" does not translate to music gear?

I am honestly asking?

Not from my experience. I've been buying used gear from thegearpage for years, even ebay and reverb.com with no issues. It's not like a used car where eventually the wear and tear of everyday use takes a huge toll. Also a lot of the "boutique" gear is much easier repairable.

Youtube reviews don't replace being able to actually try the gear before you buy, but use them as a resource to see what you might like, and what will work best with your rig, buy used, if you don't like it, sell it to the next guy who might like it.

I buy all my gear used. It's all been perfect. Musicians are generally good people

True. Probably not like buying an old TV or PS3-4. From the back of a car that has water damage.

And if the site is reputable and your pickups catch fire, you can probably have some recourse.
