Everybody covers songs, Burt.

Zeppelin, Dead...hell everybody has covered Morning Dew.. you know why?

D C G D
F C Em D

It's an easy tune to play and people can jam over those chords all day every day.

Please state your case! I know retard was trolling. You seem sincere, so I'm curious why...

First let me address this:

somebody needs to listen @ Fillmore East

Overrated in no way implies poor. It has nothing really to do with ability. It is simply that someone is rated higher than they should be. Duane gets many #1 votes. I am a fan of his playing. He was absolutely phenomenal.

He is credited with exactly one song, and most people who are not Allman Brothers fans don't know it and would not even recognize it if they heard it. BTW, that one song makes my top 5 of their entire catalog.

What most music fans know of the Allman Brothers is due to 1. Dickey Betts, and 2. Gregg.

For me, I'm incredibly fond of slide guitar. I think that is why I boost Duane...that boy could play a slide like his life depended on it.

Which is also why I think Derek Trucks is the man.

Scooter Herring story

quote:

The group’s downfall came courtesy of a wide-ranging investigation that started two years before as an effort to uncover police corruption in Georgia. The ultimate target was a local mob boss named J.C. Hawkins, who was suspected of a long list of crimes that included bribing officials and running a drug ring — one that allegedly claimed the Allmans among its biggest clients.
In pursuit of Hawkins, the FBI and DEA honed in on a pair of middlemen: Joey Fuchs, who was suspected of acting as a wholesaler for Hawkins, and John “Scooter” Herring, who worked as Gregg Allman‘s personal road manager. Investigators believed Fuchs sold Hawkins’ drugs to Herring, who supplied them to Allman, and they decided to catch their big fish by hooking some smaller ones first.

Gregg took a deal and testified against Scooter. The rest of the band was pissed.

quote:

“There is no way we can work with Gregg Allman again. Ever,” said guitarist Dickey Betts at the time, and for several years, it seemed as though his defiant proclamation might come true. The Allmans splintered, saying goodbye with the wan live LP Wipe the Windows, Check the Oil, Dollar Gas later in the year.
