Two teen pop idols. Deb had the looks, the talent (wrote and produced her own songs) and was mentally stable. Yet she is a trivia question while Britt went on to be a cultural icon. What happened?

Britney Spears at the turn of the millennium was the biggest star in the world, one of the top 3 or 4 pop stars in history. Nobody will argue that she has a voice like Pat Benetar but her hotness while still being the goofy cute girl next door thing combined with her immense charisma and sex appeal put her through the stratosphere.

Fun fact - the secretary Mike Dubose had an affair with that ultimately lead to his demise as Bama's HC was named Debbie Gibson.
