There is a little bit of "get off my lawn" there.
BUT there is a lot of fact too. Even rap and hip hop have changed. It's horrendous. Driving into work this morning I noticed an AUTOTUNED rap song on the radio?
Why!!!??
Is there a rapper or hip hop artist who can sing? Not R&B. Don't give me an R&B guy who may have done a rap style song?
Dr. Dre can't sing for shite either, but probably has never professed to sing. And I bet he never used Autotune.

He's right but Kanye has probably made more bank than Crosby has ever thought about. I don't like Kanye either but the brother knows how to make money.

The problem with these guys is they think to create music you have to do it one way (which of course happens to be their way).
Anything that makes sound can be used as an instrument. A guitar, voice, keyboard, laptop, sampler.
There are electronic musicians in the early 20th century manipulating sounds to create music. There are artists today that use computers and synthesizers to creative ambient music. There is noise music. There is Musique concrète. There is hip-hop. All of these things are music. And it takes a creative person to do it well.
The problem with these guys is they think to create music you have to do it one way (which of course happens to be their way).

I haven't heard much of Kanye's product, but I heard him using Autotune years ago. Like back at the time of his "Kanye sucks!" set at Bonnaroo.
Oh and btw, Crosby and the Byrds inspired Dylan to go electric. His influence on American music is fairly significant.

great point. fwiw, i hate kanye as a human being, he is a complete piece of shite. he is also a shitty rapper.
that being said, he is probably the greatest rap producer of all time. better than dre, timbaland, rza, and so on.

I don't think he's shitting on a whole genre, just Kanye's delusion that he's a great musician/singer/songwriter. In fact, that's pretty much what's he's saying verbatim. And while I think David Crosby is an arse too, he's got quite a few accomplishments to back up his opinions. His thoughts certainly hold more weight than Kanye's opinions.

I wasn't specifically referencing this article. Crosby has been shitting on hip-hop in general for years now.
Kanye also has a few accomplishments. 21 Grammy's. A consistent discography.

I think Crosby is spot on though. Kanye is a good producer and what I call creative. But he is not a top notch singer/songwriter/musician. Obviously, this is subjective and that's my opinion.......as well as many others.
