Saw George Strait at the Cajun Dome and it was about as exciting as a Sunday night at a retirement home. I was thoroughly disappointed

I'll give 2 from this past Bonnaroo

Letdown: Gary Clark Jr. Maybe it was the festival scene, but he seemed bored and disinterested.

Unexpected: Bleachers. Was forced to go to the show. Had zero expectations and now am a big fan. They did a cover of "Go Your Own Way" and it was fantastic.

Enjoy his music, but I wouldn't pay a nickel to watch him perform in my backyard. He just stands there holding a guitar as prop while singing.

The overly hyped Grateful Dead nostalgia fest this weekend. Even the fanboys talk about songs that were off.

Foxy Shazam at a gulf coast fest in 2012.
only knew one of their songs at the time, and they just rocked the whole show.

Letdown - Only one I can really think of is Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2000. I never was a big fan, so I went with low expectations and they didn't even meet those. Foo Fighters opened for them and blew them off the stage.

Unexpected - It was probably the last time I saw Drive By Truckers a couple of years ago. I first saw them pre-Isbell in 2001, and had seen them dozens of times, but felt they had gotten stale and boring. It'd been a few years since I had last seen them, and they had really cleaned up their sound and it was one of the best shows I've seen them play.

Honorable mention would be Sigur Ros. I'm pretty obsessed with them anyway, and went in with pretty high expectations, and they blew those expectations away. One of the most incredible live acts I've ever witnessed, but it wasn't completely unexpected.

marcy playground at the roux house in baton rouge comes to mind. was not expecting such a great show

Went to that show as a fan, but had never seen them live. Marcy Playground absolutely delivered that night.

Biggest letdown was TOOL in BR about 7 years ago. Maynard seemed totally uninterested in anything but pushing his Puscifer project. Seemed detached the whole time and not in the usual Maynard way

Deadboy and the Elephantmen
David Allan Coe only played for like 25 minutes at HOB. Bottles were thrown.

Mutemath

I had to edit to add Dub Trio. Had no idea who they were when they opened for Gogol Bordello and they put on a magical show. Best instrumental band I've ever seen live.

THIS^^^^......Watched Friday and Sunday night. Music was decent but was very underwhelming. The singing was just godawful and I am a huge Grateful Dead fan.

It's time for them to hang it up.

Elton John. I was really excited to see him, and his show was a tremendous letdown. I've heard how great he was live, so maybe I just caught him on an off night. Still, a huge disappointment.

Peter Gabriel. Not really a fan, but I went to see him on the the Us tour with a friend of mine who was a huge fan. The show blew me away. Spectacular live performance, and probably the best arena show I've ever seen.

Man Man. I don't know what I was expecting, but I honestly thought I was going to die during this show. Still the single greatest live performance I've ever seen, and the crowd was great: there was even a guy dressed up as the dancing banana.

This reminds me of Pearl Jam playing Jazzfest back in 2010. They about a 2 hour time slot and played for maybe 1:20 or 1:30. Eddie was trashed the whole time and spouting off political stuff about the BP Oil Spill. Just a huge letdown.

Saw them at Bonaroo in '08 and at Voodoo Fest two years ago, and they were awesome. Never got the political bantering though; if you think people give a shite about your political views, go on a speaking tour and see how many people show up.

Letdown: Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. I didn't have high expectations for them by any means, but they were just laughably bad. Freaking terrible.

Rocked: Johnny Winters: I saw him a few years before he died and it was simply astounding. What a treat.

Letdown: Smashing Pumpkins Voodoo Fest 2007
I just didn't know that a band that created so many great songs could suck so bad live. Just really boring.

Surprise: M Ward, 2012 Hangout

I had only heard Post-War at the time, and while that album is great, i predicted his music to be somewhat boring in a live setting. Turns out, he is one hell of a performer, and his music, and guitar playing were very entertaining, and enjoyable.

Summer Sanitarium Tour. I was 15, so my music tastes back then were a bit different than now....

For one, I was really excited about seeing Korn. Korn was my first "hipster" experience because I was literally the guy that introduced them to my middle school. I bought a Korn shirt and had the first Korn CD and people thought I was so dark and bad for listening to them. Then I was having people come over to my house to listen to them and our class's first goth-douchebag group formed all around me.

So when I finally got to see them in concert a few years later, I was stoked.

For one, the dome was WAY too bright for a Korn concert. Two and most importantly, the sound was awful. Just echoing bass and bass drum. You couldn't hear the guitars at all. The reverb was way too much. Third, Korn sucked. The singer sounded terrible and with the horrible sound, the whole concert was bad.

Then James Hetfield was in a water skiing accident or something and Metallica didn't play. Granted, it was seeing Metallica the band play with other singers and it was nice of them to come back to Atlanta a few months later to do another show for us, but I remember leaving that night completely let down.

I've seen him 3 times.

Once at Jazz fest, which was my least favorite.

Festival Internationale in Lafayette, can't complain with it being free and I was close up for it. Solid show.

and then at House of Blues in Nola, which was by far the best set I've seen from him. He's much better in a venue like that compared to a big open fest. It's also possible that the dude was worn out when you saw him. He seems to tour non stop and play all the festivals.

Back in 1980 I went to the centrplex in B.R to see the Doobie Brothers....Leroux opened for them and KICKED arse...... I always thought of them as the band that played soft ballads after hearing "New Orleans Ladies".. Most in the place were wanting them back after about an hour of the doobies........

One of the worst was the Deftones in Birmingham in the early 00s. Absolutely no energy, and Chino seemed drunk and sloppy. Awful.

I saw the Mighty Mighty Bosstones on the Warped Tour in Panama City. Green Day was headlining but canceled that show. Dicky Barret apparently wasn't happy about it, and when they took the stage they apologized for them and said they could frick off. I wasn't a fan but they were awesome and a lot of fun.

I was in the front row of that Primus concert at the sugar mill.

Les played the intro to voodoo child on his bass and then went straight into Tommy the Cat.

It was a great fricking show. The guy that played sax on some of les's side projects joined in on a few songs.

Absolutely nothing boring about that show.
