Country music was ruint a long time ago, brother. There are still some, like Sturgill Simpson, carrying the torch, but the darkness has been winning for a while now.

A five year moratorium on the words 'girl', 'baby/babe', 'tailgate down', and 'fireball' would drastically improve country music.

Add in anything about clothing being "painted on tight" or drinking "fire" or "good stuff"

ill say there is a ton of good country, if you get away from country radio.

beyond the obvious answers of sturgill, and isbell, guys like caleb caudle, austin lucas, matt woods, nathan bell, etc... are churning out excellent albums. they just arent popular/mainstream.

At this point I'd happily settle for stuff like older Brad Paisley and country from the mid 2000s.

I don't expect radio to play a guy like Sturgill, and I don't rely on radio for much. But, if I've gotta hear mainstream country at bars, in the car, etc., I'd take some 90s/00s stupid country over bro country.

It doesn't have to be cliche or or cheese-free. "Buy Me a Boat" is a perfect example of an absurd country song, but I'll take it over "lemme put the tailgate down girl" every single time.

Produced beats are ruining hip-hop and rap.

I can also post things that are a decade and half old.

Country used to be "4 chords and the truth". There's no truth in modern country music. These boy band looking yuppies pretending to be country stars have never done half the things they sing about, or else they would know that "brand new chevys with the lift kit" don't have bench seats for girls to "slide on over" in because it's not 1986 anymore! Command seats with a big arse console in the middle has been standard issue for the last 20 years in trucks.

No, Luke Bryant, you don't want to take this girl you just met at a party "way out, where the corn rows row row row your boat" to go catfishing, cook said catfish, and then f&%k. No one does that but serial killers. Are you a serial killer? Yep yep, is that where it's at for you?

Listening to this kind of stupid, disingenuous crap does not "make my speakers go boom boom", nor is it the kind of thing that makes a man go "mm mm". And no, I don't spend my Sundays "doin' a little flip-cup-ing" with some "swagger and Jagger". That's f&%king stupid!

No one makes mix tapes with a little "Ol' Hank and a little T-Payne". That would be the worst mix tape of all time!

All I ask is a little dose of reality. We all like beer, painted on jeans, bonfires, and f*&king in the bed of trucks. It's true, it's fun, it's a great lifestyle. However, just be yourself. Not what you think your demographic wants you to be. Sing the truth. That's why "It could buy me a boat" is a way better country song than most bro-country bullshite. Why? Because it's honest. That guy wants a boat. Boats are cool. Boats cost money. Is it a little asinine? Is it absurdly simple? Yes!!! But at least it's honest.

Jake Owen said "we really did just drive around cause there wasn't sh%t to do". That's honest. It's a mediocre song, but it's 4 chords and the truth. At least Brad Paisley's bullshite is tongue and cheek!

For hating bro country, you sure are intimately familiar with its artists and their lyrics.

My wife listens to country music in her car. It's unnavoidable. Thankfully, she has significantly cut back on this over the past 6 months since she discovered community radio, haha.

Those songs that you said were "shitty but at least honest and okay" are not in the slightest country. So no, they are not alright.

William Elliott Whitmore - Ain't No Sunshine (Bill Withers cover)

Dude makes a Bill Withers song more country than anything on country radio.

I went to a dove shoot a couple of years ago and there was an aspiring country music singer(how he introduced himself) there. They had invited him to play a short set after the shoot while everyone drank beer and ate some BBQ. It was clearly his first dove shoot, which was fine. I would even guess it was his first time hunting anything, which again was fine. But then he got on the stage and sang a song about hanging at the deer camp with his boys, and gutting a deer, which was clearly BS because he stood off the side and looked like he was going to puke while we cleaned the dove.

Wish I could remember his name. He was actually a decent flat top guitar player and had a good voice.
