They’re the reason we have pop
and rock bands today.

The Geoff Emerick book is good. The Beatles were great musicians and great studio techs. Not likely to see that again.

I'm amazed when someone says they don't like them.

Most people who don’t like the Beatles are objecting to the harmony vocals. I can see how it takes away from the musical innovation that I appreciate.

In my experience most people that don't like the beatles fall into one of two groups:

1) They have only been exposed to very early beatles like "I wanna hold your hand" and don't realize that their sound incorporates a massive range

2) Young people who think the beatles are "old people music" and think doja cat and skrillex are real music.

what about yoko
The more I learn about the history, the less I find her to be a relevant part of the break up story.

If you want to blame someone, blame John's stupidity in being so taken in by Allen Klein. For someone who was reportedly and supposedly so tuned into human beings on a real level, he sure managed to be easily taken in by an obvious shyster and grifter.

Check this out. 4 separate movies for each member of The Beatles is on the way.
This seems like the right way to do it. I wonder if the director is literally going to have repeat scenes, only from the other guys' perspectives.

I read the Mal Evans bio.

Those looking for insights on the Beatles themselves will be disappointed.

The most interesting thing was how little it says about Neil Aspinall. As far as I know NA didn't leave a journal, so I guess he's destined to remain an enigma.

I'm not sure I agree with that, but just learning about Mal was good enough for me.

I'm finding this is just very true. He was there AT LEAST as much as Mal (although less clear after the breakup) - and he does come across almost as a ghost.

I'm reading the book now about the Beatles and drugs and it's hilarious when Neil pops up. You'll be reading about an iconic event like Dylan giving them pot and then there'll be offhand mention of Neil. A front row seat and barely registered.

Without the Beatles we wouldn’t have half the touring bands we have today.

They pioneered virtually ever aspect of popular music today - massive venue tours, albums as a cohesive concept, concept albums, social justice politics, etc.

There are some extremely underrated songs on the 1st 2 albums. Currently, can't get It Won't Be Long, All I've Got to Do and Hold Me Tight out of my mind.

Also, I think the Ticket to Ride/Yes It Is single is the single greatest release of any type in the history of music. See you at Sonic.

Agree

I'd add Don't Bother Me and Not a Second Time.

Rain is one of my favorite Beatle tracks (a fave of Ringo's too)

Should have been the A side
