Yes, it unravelled. They had no adult leadership.

My daughter just sent me this.
She has discovered Oasis recently. Who are obviously heavily influenced by The Beatles. In fact they usually play The Walrus in their concerts. So she has also been very interested in learning, listening and watching The Beatles. So I’ve been listening to them as well. Never really have in the past. I guess we are in our British Invasion era.

New generation discovering and enjoying The Beatles (and Oasis)

Over Easter break I got her to watch the movie Yesterday. Such a great movie!!

The songs in the top five were “Please Please Me” at #5, “I Want to Hold Your Hand” at #4, “She Loves You” at #3, “Twist and Shout” at #2 and “Can’t Buy Me Love” at #1.
It's crazy that Hand was still #4 at this point.

This is pretty much where I am. John's is the only solo career that I feel gets me actually excited. His best tunes are as good as Beatles tunes.

I find I either love John’s stuff or hate it and think it’s trash, with no in between. Not sure why either, I guess maybe sometimes you can tell when he actually tried versus when he just mailed it in or let Yoko influence him too much.

I just don’t really seek out solo stuff from them. But if I come across one that I like I add it to my songs though. I had never heard his Grow Old With Me demo until several weeks ago and I really liked it so I added that one.

both john and Paul were better together and that’s pretty indisputable. However Paul’s quantity doesn’t outweigh John’s quality at least for me. When I was a teenager I obsessed over John’s solo records, I know every beat and every strum. He had something to say, while Paul had something to sing

To me that’s the difference

I get your point but I think you’re vastly shorting Paul on quality. Unless Paul being a lot less political is what you’re getting at. But Paul has some absolute gems in his solo/Wings career that are pretty profound/have a great message.

I do agree that that’s a good way to describe them though.

They were both fantastic and benefited so much from each other.

I think George also became valuable.

Has anyone ever heard the Freddie Lennon song (John's father) that came out in 1965?

Wiki

Youtube

From what I gather, he tried to get into his son's life after they broke big.

I actually really like this song.

even more noteworthy to me is that these 5 singles were released on 4 different record labels

In 1963 various labels released Beatle records in tUS, to virtually no response

In 1964, still owning the rights during Beatlemania, the labels re released the records at the same time, resulting in the April 4 chart.

The Beatles had 9 of the top 10 in Australia

Here is a favorite chart of mine, as it features the classic "Dance Franny Dance" by local boy Floyd Dakil:

Note the Beatles are so popular they have been given their own separate chart.

This top 5 achievement would never have been broken under the old physical sales system, but in the digital age I presume it will be, if it hasn't been already.

Finished the Alistair Taylor book.

Aside from the factoid that John's father attended the MMT wrap party, it was notable mostly for AT detailing what a bitch Linda M. was (especially to her servants). I already knew that, but AT provided more anecdotal evidence.

Aside from the new Peter Brown there are at least two other Beatle insider memoirs: one by an Apple secretary & another by Geoffrey Ellis, a NEMS office man from almost the beginning & even more of a mystery than Neil Aspinall, as he is almost never mentioned by anyone ever (apparently he disliked the Beatles music & especially hated John). His book is supposedly very dry (the AT was chattily gossipy) but I hope to read both it & the secretary soon.

Got ahold of the new Peter Brown

Curiously, it has an interview w/Alistair Taylor, who as I wrote is barely mentioned in The Love You Make.

Also related to what I wrote before, Brown has no doubt as to his own status. As he says in the intro, "I was Brian's best friend".

Considering Epstein, Brown, G. Ellis were all homos (as is co-author Gaines) there is an ever present subtext to the book, adding an undertone to Taylor's "I was not as close to Brian as Peter was."

Those wearying of my Beatle book updates may get some relief soon. Thinking about taking a break from the subject -- getting kinda Beatled out.

I'm about 40% in. I'm unaware of what all is new info. It has a whole Neil Aspinall chapter - I assume that's new?!?!

The Magic Alex interview is crazy too.

nah. Barely getting started.

I've also just received in the mail "John Lennon In My Life" by Pete Shotton. The intro makes the claim that Pete thinks he spent more time with John than any other person.

It's an interesting hard copy - it's paperback but like the size of a magazine.
