Tina Turner Private Dancer tour - didn't want to got, went because "she" wanted to.
Blew me away. Really, really good.

Three Days Grace. Was meh on them until I saw them at HoB after the release of One-X. Then they did a show on one day's notice after Nickelback canceled (was not going inb4 lol Nickleback) that was an acoustic set opener followed by the electric set headliner. Was nice to see a band throw over 2 hours in there and use the time themselves instead of finding random local rock band.
Then Adam Gontier left, and I went back to meh.

Blind Melon is an amazing band. I'm glad you were able to look past No Rain.
To answer your question I would have to say Cypress Hill. They used to get on my nerves until I saw them at Voodoo Fest 2004 and they absolutely killed it. It was such a fun show. Great energy in the crowd. I didn't rush home and play their music nonstop but I've had a newfound level of respect for them ever since.

quote:I was there, and yes it was. I'm still not much of a fan of their musica, but they brought so much fearless and reckless energy and attitude to the show. It was a great and appropriate performance, although it was obvious Hoon was burning a short fuse. But, yeah, they gained my respect that day, and I hated not being able to afford their show in New Orleans... Then I heard the announcement on the radio that morning. Too bad.
Then Woodstock2 happened, and man was it glorious.

I was at that show at 5 points. The green room there was basically an attic storage room. They saw the big arse disco ball sitting up there and after the Floyd show the night before it was a no brainer to get it onstage and bust out the Floyd. I'm not much of a Phish guy, but it was a pretty cheeky opener.

I wouldn't say I hated, just wasn't ever a fan of Kid Rock. Saw a show and was impressed with how good of an entertainer he actually is. I wouldn't say I'm a fan now, but I definitely have some respect for his show.

Garth Brooks. Was never much of a country fan. I got dragged to one of his shows in the mid 90s. Pure showmanship.

I see it had the same effect on you as it did me.
You should check out their other band after Shannon Hoon died. Unified Theory was the name. The singer they brought on sounded so eerily similar to Hoon with a touch of Jeff Buckley to his voice. They only recorded one record, and it was considered by many to be the album of the year when it was released (I agreed with that assessment).

Didn't really care for John Mayer until I took a girlfriend to see him in 2010.
I listened to his continuum album a lot prior just to see if I could like it and it really grew on me. Then seeing him live I'm pretty sure I enjoyed it more than she did. As a guitar player myself I was blown away. I've seen him 4 more times since then and I'm a big fan.

The only record by him that I like. Stop This Train is not only his best song, but it's one of my all-time favorites period.

His Trio Album is fantastic. Where the Light Is him at his best
I think Born and Raised could grow on you with a few listens. Walt Grace's Submarine Test is easily one of his best. Queen of California sounds very Allman Brothers-esque. I like basically every song he has outside of the bubble gum pop.
If I had to put a list of his best I'd go with these (no particular order):
I Don't Trust Myself With Loving You
Slow Dancing in a Burnin Room
Belief
Stop This Train
Walt Grace Submarine Test
Edge of Desire
Vultures
If I Ever Get Around to Living
Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey
Assassin
Queen of California
frickload of other really solid songs, and If I were going with live stuff his entire set from Live in La, his ACL set, the trio sets, and specifically Covered in Rain from his set in Birmingham Dude was in a zone on that solo.
Not to mention the step he is doing with Grateful Dead. He's hinted at his next album being more alone the lines of Continuum and he's recording with Steve Jordan and Pino who were both part of Continuum. Should be good stuff.

I really didn't know what was going on the first half of the 1st set. Then the mushrooms kicked in, and I had a blast. Only songs I remember today are The Great Gig in the Sky and Reba. Wish I could remember the Divided Sky as it's my favorite Phish song.
